Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric ENT will provide specialist care for infants, children, and adolescents with conditions affecting hearing, airway function, speech development, sinuses, middle ear structures, tonsils, adenoids, and other areas of pediatric otolaryngology. The role combines outpatient diagnosis, surgical treatment, diagnostic interpretation, postoperative follow-up, and collaborative management with audiology, speech therapy, pediatrics, and related specialties. The consultant will help improve hearing, breathing, communication, and quality of life while supporting safe and age-appropriate care for children and their families.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired ear, nose, and throat disorders affecting pediatric patients.
* Conduct comprehensive pediatric ENT consultations and age-appropriate clinical examinations.
* Perform tonsillectomy for children with clinically indicated tonsillar disease or airway obstruction.
* Carry out adenoidectomy for appropriate pediatric airway and recurrent infection conditions.
* Perform tympanoplasty and other relevant middle ear procedures within the consultant\'s scope of expertise.
* Conduct endoscopic sinus surgery for selected pediatric sinonasal conditions.
* Assess recurrent ear infections, hearing impairment, chronic middle ear disease, and related otologic problems.
* Evaluate pediatric nasal obstruction, chronic sinus disease, sleep-related breathing problems, and upper airway disorders.
* Interpret audiograms and integrate audiological findings into treatment decisions.
* Review CT and MRI imaging relevant to pediatric ENT and head and neck conditions.
* Provide specialist consultations and second opinions for complex pediatric otolaryngology cases.
* Develop individualized medical and surgical treatment plans according to diagnosis, age, developmental needs, and expected outcomes.
* Collaborate with audiologists to manage hearing-related conditions and rehabilitation requirements.
* Work closely with speech therapists when ENT disorders affect speech, voice, resonance, or communication development.
* Coordinate care with pediatricians and other medical specialists for children with complex or multisystem conditions.
* Explain diagnoses, surgical options, potential risks, expected recovery, and long-term outcomes clearly to parents and caregivers.
* Monitor postoperative recovery and identify complications requiring further treatment or intervention.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, diagnostic findings, operative reports, consent documentation, and follow-up plans.
* Participate in clinical audits, departmental meetings, quality improvement, and continuing medical education.
* Supervise and mentor junior doctors and medical students where appropriate.
* Maintain high standards of patient safety, infection control, evidence-based practice, and family-centered pediatric care.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Recognized specialization in Otolaryngology.
* Fellowship or Board Certification in Pediatric ENT or Pediatric Otolaryngology is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience with significant exposure to pediatric ENT cases.
* Western clinical education or specialist training is required.
* Strong surgical experience in pediatric otolaryngology.
* Proven competence in tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, tympanoplasty, and pediatric endoscopic sinus procedures.
* Strong diagnostic ability in congenital and acquired pediatric ENT disorders.
* Experience interpreting audiograms, CT scans, MRI studies, and other relevant investigations.
* Ability to manage complex pediatric ENT cases and provide specialist second opinions.
* Strong multidisciplinary collaboration skills involving audiology, speech therapy, pediatrics, and allied specialties.
* Excellent communication and family counseling abilities.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
