Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Gastroenterology provides specialist care for children with digestive, hepatology, pancreatic, and nutrition-related conditions that require careful assessment, long-term monitoring, and coordinated treatment. The role combines clinical consultation, pediatric endoscopy, family education, nutritional management, and multidisciplinary care planning.
This position has strong impact on child health outcomes because pediatric gastrointestinal disorders can affect growth, nutrition, development, comfort, and quality of life. The consultant will support early diagnosis, safe procedures, personalized treatment, and clear family communication in Arabic and English where required.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric gastrointestinal, hepatology, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Treat conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, GERD, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, liver diseases, feeding disorders, malabsorption, and complex digestive complaints.
* Perform pediatric GI procedures, including diagnostic endoscopy, colonoscopy, biopsy, and related endoscopic assessments where clinically appropriate.
* Conduct detailed consultations, review medical history, assess growth and nutrition, interpret investigations, and develop clear diagnostic pathways.
* Develop individualized treatment and nutritional management plans based on diagnosis, patient age, growth needs, family history, laboratory findings, and clinical response.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, dietitians, nurses, radiologists, pathologists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams for integrated care.
* Provide patient and family education regarding gastrointestinal health, nutrition, medication use, procedure preparation, preventive care, and long-term follow-up.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, nutritional plans, and follow-up records in line with DHA requirements.
* Participate in departmental quality initiatives, clinical audits, case reviews, research activity, and continuing medical education programs.
* Follow international clinical standards, patient safety requirements, infection control protocols, confidentiality rules, and evidence-based pediatric gastroenterology practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with specialization in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
* American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology is preferred.
* Arabic speaking ability is mandatory.
* Active DHA license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in pediatric gastroenterology.
* Strong expertise in pediatric endoscopic procedures, advanced GI care, hepatology, feeding disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and nutritional management.
* Proven ability to manage complex pediatric digestive cases with clinical accuracy, compassion, and family-centered communication.
* Excellent leadership, patient-management, counselling, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
