Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Gastroenterology will provide specialist care for children with acute, chronic, and complex digestive disorders. The role covers pediatric gastrointestinal assessment, hepatology care, nutritional evaluation, pediatric endoscopic procedures, long-term disease management, and family education. Arabic language proficiency is essential for clear communication with patients and families, while collaboration with pediatricians, surgeons, dietitians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams will help improve outcomes for children with gastrointestinal and nutritional conditions in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric gastrointestinal, hepatology, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.
* Treat conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, GERD, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, liver diseases, feeding disorders, malabsorption, and related digestive concerns.
* Perform pediatric gastrointestinal procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, biopsy, and other approved diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
* Conduct detailed clinical assessments, review medical history, interpret laboratory results, imaging, growth data, nutritional status, and endoscopic findings.
* Develop individualized treatment and nutritional management plans based on diagnosis, age, growth needs, disease severity, family circumstances, and long-term care goals.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, dietitians, radiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams for integrated patient care.
* Provide patient and family education in Arabic and English regarding digestive health, treatment plans, procedure preparation, nutrition, medication adherence, and preventive care.
* Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, manage complications, and support long-term follow-up for chronic pediatric GI and liver conditions.
* Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, procedure reports, consent forms, diagnostic reviews, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure clinical care follows DHA requirements, international clinical standards, hospital protocols, infection control procedures, and patient safety guidelines.
* Participate in departmental quality initiatives, clinical audits, research activity, case discussions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Support a compassionate, child-focused, and family-centered care environment for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with specialization in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
* American Board Certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology is preferred.
* Arabic speaker is mandatory, with strong English communication skills for clinical coordination.
* DHA License Eligibility or active DHA License is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in pediatric gastroenterology.
* Strong expertise in pediatric gastrointestinal disorders, hepatology, nutritional disorders, feeding concerns, and advanced pediatric GI care.
* Proven experience performing pediatric endoscopic procedures including endoscopy and colonoscopy.
* Ability to manage complex cases involving IBD, celiac disease, GERD, chronic abdominal pain, constipation, liver disease, and feeding disorders.
* Strong communication, leadership, patient-management, and family counselling skills.
* Ability to work effectively with pediatricians, surgeons, dietitians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Commitment to patient safety, evidence-based care, clinical documentation, continuous learning, and high-quality pediatric outcomes.
