Role Context

The Consultant Pediatric Hematologist - Blood Disorders provides advanced specialist care for infants, children, and adolescents with inherited, acquired, acute, and chronic hematologic conditions. The role involves accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, transfusion support, complication prevention, genetic coordination, family education, and long-term disease monitoring.

This position has strong clinical impact because pediatric blood disorders often require continuous care, multidisciplinary review, emotional support, and careful treatment adjustments over time. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric hematology services through clinical audits, quality improvement, teaching, CME involvement, and research contribution.

Key Responsibilities

* Diagnose and manage pediatric hematologic conditions, including anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, platelet disorders, clotting abnormalities, and bone marrow failure syndromes.

* Conduct detailed pediatric hematology consultations, including clinical history review, physical examination, laboratory interpretation, family history assessment, and risk evaluation.

* Develop individualized treatment plans involving transfusions, iron chelation, immunotherapy, medication management, monitoring schedules, and long-term follow-up.

* Manage children with inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, hemoglobinopathies, marrow-related conditions, and complex hematology presentations.

* Collaborate with pediatric oncologists, pathologists, geneticists, transfusion medicine teams, nurses, pharmacists, and allied healthcare professionals for integrated care.

* Provide family counselling and education on disease progression, treatment options, transfusion safety, medication adherence, genetic considerations, warning symptoms, and long-term care needs.

* Participate in tumor boards, hematology case discussions, multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

* Support academic teaching, CME programs, resident education, and clinical training for healthcare teams involved in pediatric hematology care.

* Contribute to research activity, case reviews, protocol development, and evidence-based service improvement.

* Maintain accurate consultation notes, laboratory reviews, treatment plans, transfusion records, consent documentation, and follow-up reports in line with DHA requirements.

* Follow patient safety standards, infection control policies, confidentiality rules, clinical governance processes, and international pediatric hematology best practices.

Ideal Profile

* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Hematology, such as American Board, UK CCT, or equivalent.

* Active DHA license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.

* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in pediatric hematology within a tertiary-care or academic healthcare setting.

* Proven expertise in managing complex hematologic disorders in children, including hemoglobinopathies, bleeding disorders, clotting abnormalities, platelet disorders, anemia, and marrow failure syndromes.

* Strong understanding of transfusion medicine, iron chelation, immunotherapy, genetic workup, long-term follow-up, and multidisciplinary pediatric care.

* Excellent interpersonal, communication, family counselling, clinical documentation, and teamwork skills.

* Compassionate, patient-centered approach with the ability to support children and families through complex and long-term treatment journeys.
