Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Hematology Oncology will provide specialist care for pediatric patients with leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, anemia, clotting disorders, and other hematologic diseases. The position carries strong clinical responsibility for diagnosis, treatment planning, therapy supervision, complication management, and long-term follow-up. By working closely with pediatricians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, and allied healthcare teams, the consultant will help deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based cancer and blood disorder care for children and families in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, anemia, bleeding disorders, clotting disorders, and other blood diseases.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical presentation, diagnostic findings, evidence-based protocols, and patient-specific risk factors.
* Administer, supervise, and monitor chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusion therapy, supportive care, and related pediatric oncology treatments.
* Review diagnostic investigations, laboratory results, imaging findings, pathology reports, and treatment response indicators to guide clinical decisions.
* Monitor patients for treatment complications, disease progression, relapse risk, infection, transfusion needs, and therapy-related side effects.
* Coordinate care with pediatricians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, intensive care teams, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Provide compassionate counselling and practical education to patients and families during diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and long-term follow-up.
* Participate in tumor boards, multidisciplinary case discussions, departmental meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Maintain complete and accurate medical records in line with DOH regulations, hospital standards, and clinical governance requirements.
* Stay updated with current developments in pediatric hematology, pediatric oncology, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and international clinical guidelines.
* Support teaching, mentoring, and professional development of junior doctors, residents, fellows, and clinical team members when required.
* Contribute to research, academic activities, publications, or clinical trials where applicable.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Completion of recognized specialty training in Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
* UK Certificate of Completion of Training, American Board Certification, Canadian Board Certification, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* DOH Abu Dhabi License or eligibility is required.
* Minimum 5 years of post-board experience in Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
* Strong expertise in pediatric cancer management, hematologic disorders, chemotherapy protocols, immunotherapy, transfusion medicine, and supportive care.
* Experience managing leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, anemia, clotting disorders, and complex pediatric blood diseases.
* Background in internationally accredited hospitals, tertiary healthcare centers, or advanced pediatric oncology units is preferred.
* Experience in bone marrow transplantation and advanced pediatric oncology treatments will be an advantage.
* Participation in clinical research, academic teaching, publications, tumor boards, or protocol development is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, and family counselling skills.
* Compassionate and empathetic approach toward children, adolescents, and families facing serious illness.
* Fluency in English is mandatory, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
