Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Hematology will provide expert clinical care for infants, children, and adolescents with inherited and acquired hematologic conditions. The position requires advanced diagnostic judgment, careful interpretation of blood tests and bone marrow findings, individualized treatment planning, family counselling, and close coordination with pediatric oncology, pathology, genetics, transfusion medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and allied healthcare teams. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric hematology services in Dubai by improving outcomes for children with chronic, acute, and complex blood disorders.
Core Duties
* Diagnose and treat pediatric hematologic conditions including anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, platelet disorders, clotting abnormalities, and bone marrow failure syndromes.
* Conduct detailed clinical assessments supported by laboratory investigations, genetic testing, coagulation studies, transfusion history, and relevant diagnostic findings.
* Develop individualized treatment plans for children requiring transfusions, iron chelation, immunotherapy, clotting factor support, supportive care, or long-term disease monitoring.
* Manage complex inherited and acquired blood disorders with a strong focus on patient safety, evidence-based treatment, and age-appropriate care.
* Collaborate with pediatric oncologists, pathologists, geneticists, transfusion specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary professionals.
* Provide clear counselling and education to families regarding diagnosis, treatment expectations, medication adherence, transfusion needs, complication prevention, and long-term care.
* Support children and families through chronic disease management with compassion, practical guidance, and consistent follow-up planning.
* Participate in tumor boards, hematology case discussions, multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Review treatment response, laboratory trends, adverse effects, and disease progression to adjust care plans when needed.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including consultation notes, diagnostic interpretations, treatment plans, consent records, and follow-up recommendations.
* Contribute to academic teaching, CME programs, resident education, nursing training, and clinical knowledge sharing.
* Engage in research activities and evidence-based practice to support continuous improvement in pediatric hematology care.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Hematology such as American Board, UK CCT, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
* DHA eligibility or active DHA license is required.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in a tertiary care, academic, or advanced pediatric healthcare setting.
* Proven expertise in managing complex hematologic disorders in children.
* Strong clinical experience with anemia, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, platelet disorders, clotting abnormalities, and bone marrow failure syndromes.
* Skilled in developing treatment plans involving transfusion support, iron chelation, immunotherapy, factor replacement, and long-term monitoring.
* Ability to work closely with pediatric oncology, pathology, genetics, transfusion medicine, and multidisciplinary care teams.
* Excellent communication skills with a family-centered approach to explaining complex diagnoses and treatment pathways.
