Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Intensive Care Specialist plays a critical role in saving lives and stabilizing children with severe and life-threatening illnesses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This position supports hospital excellence by leading advanced critical care management, improving recovery outcomes, mentoring clinical teams, and maintaining the highest standards of pediatric patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver expert intensive care management for critically ill infants, children, and adolescents in the PICU
* Manage high-acuity pediatric cases involving respiratory failure, sepsis, trauma, post-operative care, neurological emergencies, and multisystem organ dysfunction
* Perform advanced procedures including mechanical ventilation, ECMO management, invasive monitoring, central line placement, and emergency stabilization
* Develop individualized treatment plans and continuously monitor patient progress and recovery pathways
* Collaborate closely with pediatricians, surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals for multidisciplinary patient care
* Lead daily PICU rounds and provide consultant-level decision-making for complex pediatric critical care cases
* Mentor junior physicians, fellows, residents, and nursing staff while supporting education and simulation-based training programs
* Lead quality improvement projects and ensure compliance with international PICU care standards and DHA regulations
* Participate in clinical research, audits, and continuous medical education activities
* Maintain accurate medical records and promote strong family-centered communication throughout patient care
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Board certification in Pediatric Intensive Care or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
* Western training from USA, UK, Canada, or equivalent is mandatory
* Minimum three to five years of post-board experience in a consultant-level PICU role
* Strong expertise in advanced pediatric critical care procedures and life-support systems
* Excellent leadership, communication, and crisis management abilities
* Strong commitment to family-centered care and patient safety
* Eligibility for DHA Consultant licensure in Dubai is essential
