This role is ideal for a consultant-level PICU specialist who can lead high-acuity pediatric care, manage complex medical and surgical cases, and support a state-of-the-art pediatric intensive care unit with evidence-based clinical leadership.
The position requires strong expertise in advanced pediatric critical care techniques, family-centered communication, and multidisciplinary coordination. The selected consultant will manage critically ill infants, children, and adolescents while working closely with pediatricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, ECMO teams, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver safe, timely, and high-quality intensive care.

Key Responsibilities
* Deliver expert clinical care to high-acuity pediatric patients admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit
* Manage complex medical and surgical pediatric critical care cases requiring advanced monitoring, life support, and multidisciplinary treatment planning
* Perform and supervise advanced PICU procedures, including mechanical ventilation, ECMO support, invasive monitoring, airway stabilization, and emergency interventions
* Develop individualized treatment plans for critically ill children and monitor response to therapy, organ support, medication plans, and recovery progress
* Collaborate with pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals for integrated patient care
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with families regarding diagnosis, clinical progress, prognosis, treatment options, and care decisions
* Lead clinical decision-making during emergency deterioration, resuscitation, sepsis management, respiratory failure, shock, trauma, and postoperative critical care cases
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, nurses, and PICU staff while contributing to structured clinical education programs
* Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and protocol development
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with DHA requirements, hospital policies, and international pediatric intensive care standards
* Participate in clinical research, CME activities, departmental education, and continuous professional development
* Stay updated with advances in pediatric intensive care, ECMO, ventilation strategies, critical care monitoring, and PICU technologies
Ideal Profile
The ideal candidate is a Western-trained Consultant Pediatric Intensivist with proven PICU leadership experience and strong expertise in advanced pediatric critical care techniques. This role requires calm decision-making under pressure, excellent communication, and a strong commitment to family-centered care in a high-acuity hospital environment.
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Board Certification in Pediatric Intensive Care or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
* Western training from USA, UK, Canada, or an equivalent recognized healthcare system is mandatory
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-board experience in a consultant PICU role
* Eligible for DHA Consultant licensure through Dubai Health Authority
* Proven expertise in mechanical ventilation, ECMO, invasive monitoring, resuscitation, sepsis care, shock management, and complex pediatric critical care
* Strong experience managing critically ill pediatric patients with medical, surgical, trauma, respiratory, neurological, cardiac, and postoperative conditions
* Excellent leadership, family counseling, documentation, teaching, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural, high-acuity clinical environment
