Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Interventional Cardiology provides advanced diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac care for children with congenital and acquired heart diseases. The role involves pediatric cardiac catheterization, interventional procedure planning, inpatient and outpatient care, emergency cardiac support, imaging interpretation, and long-term follow-up for complex pediatric heart conditions.
This position has direct impact on pediatric cardiac outcomes, especially for patients requiring minimally invasive structural heart interventions, urgent cardiac decision-making, and coordinated surgical planning. The consultant will support clinical governance, protocol development, teaching, research, quality improvement, and the expansion of pediatric cardiac services in a tertiary-care environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform pediatric cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures, including ASD closure, VSD closure, PDA device closure, balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty, stenting, and complex congenital heart interventions.
* Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired cardiac conditions.
* Assess pediatric cardiac patients through clinical review, procedural planning, imaging evaluation, hemodynamic data, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
* Interpret echocardiography, ECG, Holter monitoring, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and related diagnostic findings where applicable to patient care.
* Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences, surgical planning meetings, catheterization reviews, and complex pediatric heart case discussions.
* Provide on-call support for pediatric cardiac emergencies, urgent interventional procedures, and high-risk cardiac presentations.
* Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, intensivists, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Develop individualized care plans based on diagnosis, anatomy, procedural risk, patient age, family needs, and long-term cardiac outcomes.
* Support departmental quality improvement, clinical governance, protocol development, audit activity, and patient safety initiatives.
* Mentor junior physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and clinical staff involved in pediatric cardiac services.
* Engage in clinical research, academic presentations, institutional audits, teaching programs, and continuing medical education activities.
* Communicate clearly with families regarding diagnosis, procedure options, risks, expected recovery, follow-up needs, and long-term care planning.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, catheterization reports, procedural documentation, consent records, and follow-up plans in line with DHA requirements and hospital policies.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Cardiology, such as American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent.
* Fellowship training in Interventional Pediatric Cardiology from a recognized center.
* Minimum 5-10 years of post-fellowship experience in a high-volume pediatric cardiac center.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Strong procedural portfolio with documented experience in pediatric cardiac catheterization and congenital heart interventions.
* Proven expertise in ASD, VSD, and PDA device closures, balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty, stenting, and complex pediatric cardiac procedures.
* Ability to manage high-acuity pediatric cardiac cases within a multidisciplinary tertiary-care environment.
* Excellent communication, leadership, teaching, family counselling, and patient-centered care skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is beneficial.
