Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Interventional Cardiology will provide expert diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac care for children with congenital and acquired heart diseases. The position requires advanced catheter-based procedural skill, careful patient assessment, interpretation of cardiac imaging and rhythm studies, participation in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences, and close coordination with pediatric cardiac surgery, cardiac anesthesia, intensive care, neonatology, nursing, perfusion, radiology, and allied healthcare teams. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric cardiac services in Dubai by improving timely intervention, reducing surgical burden where appropriate, and supporting safe outcomes for complex cardiac patients.
Core Duties
* Perform a full range of pediatric cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
* Carry out ASD, VSD, and PDA device closures using safe procedural planning, imaging guidance, and evidence-based decision-making.
* Perform balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty, stenting, and complex congenital cardiac interventions where clinically indicated.
* Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for pediatric cardiac patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
* Assess children before and after cardiac intervention, including clinical review, imaging evaluation, procedural risk assessment, consent discussion, and follow-up planning.
* Interpret echocardiography, ECG, Holter monitoring, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, catheterization findings, and related diagnostic investigations as applicable.
* Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences, surgical planning meetings, catheterization reviews, and complex congenital heart disease discussions.
* Provide on-call coverage for pediatric cardiac emergencies, urgent catheterization needs, and acute deterioration in cardiac patients.
* Collaborate with pediatric cardiac surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, radiologists, nurses, perfusionists, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Develop individualized treatment strategies based on anatomy, hemodynamics, imaging findings, clinical status, growth stage, and long-term cardiac outcomes.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including catheterization reports, procedure notes, imaging interpretations, treatment plans, consent records, and follow-up recommendations.
* Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, radiation safety principles, infection control policies, hospital protocols, and international pediatric cardiac care guidelines.
* Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality reviews, research activity, publications, and evidence-based service development.
* Support teaching and mentoring for fellows, residents, junior doctors, nurses, and cardiac catheterization laboratory staff.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Cardiology.
* Advanced fellowship or strong subspecialty experience in Pediatric Interventional Cardiology.
* Eligibility for consultant-level healthcare licensing in the UAE.
* Consultant-level experience in pediatric cardiac catheterization and congenital heart disease intervention.
* Strong expertise in ASD, VSD, PDA device closure, balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty, stenting, and complex congenital cardiac interventions.
* Experience managing neonatal, infant, pediatric, and adolescent cardiac patients in a tertiary care or advanced cardiac center.
* Proficiency in interpreting echocardiography, ECG, Holter monitoring, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and catheterization data.
* Strong clinical judgment in emergency pediatric cardiac care, procedural planning, and multidisciplinary decision-making.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to counsel families clearly about diagnosis, intervention options, risks, recovery, and long-term follow-up.
