Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Nephrologist - Renal Care provides advanced specialist care for children with inherited, congenital, acute, and chronic kidney conditions. The role involves diagnostic evaluation, renal imaging review, biopsy interpretation, dialysis oversight, transplant-related care, medication management, and structured long-term follow-up.
This position has strong clinical value because pediatric kidney disorders often require early detection, careful monitoring, family education, and coordinated treatment to protect growth, development, renal function, and quality of life. The consultant will also contribute to clinical audits, research, CME activity, and continuous improvement within pediatric renal services.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric renal conditions, including congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, acute kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, pediatric hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, and tubular disorders.
* Provide specialist inpatient and outpatient consultations for infants, children, and adolescents with simple, complex, or high-risk kidney conditions.
* Oversee pediatric dialysis programs, including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, with attention to safety, adequacy, infection prevention, and family education.
* Guide renal transplant evaluations, pre-transplant preparation, post-transplant monitoring, immunosuppression review, and long-term transplant follow-up where applicable.
* Interpret renal imaging, kidney biopsy findings, advanced laboratory diagnostics, urine studies, renal function trends, and metabolic investigations.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, age, renal function, growth needs, comorbidities, family circumstances, and long-term care goals.
* Collaborate with pediatric urologists, endocrinologists, intensivists, transplant specialists, radiologists, dietitians, dialysis nurses, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Educate families on disease management, medication adherence, diet, fluid care, blood pressure monitoring, dialysis requirements, warning symptoms, and long-term follow-up.
* Participate in multidisciplinary renal clinics, case discussions, transplant meetings, dialysis reviews, clinical audits, research, and continuing medical education activities.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, dialysis records, treatment plans, biopsy reviews, transplant documentation, consent records, and follow-up reports in line with DHA requirements.
* Follow patient safety standards, infection control requirements, confidentiality rules, clinical governance processes, and international pediatric nephrology best practices.
Ideal Profile
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Nephrology, such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent.
* Active DHA license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in pediatric nephrology within a tertiary-care or academic hospital setting.
* Proven expertise in complex pediatric renal disease, pediatric dialysis, congenital renal anomalies, glomerular disease, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and renal transplant care.
* Strong ability to interpret renal imaging, kidney biopsy reports, renal function markers, urine studies, and advanced diagnostic results.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary pediatric renal clinics, dialysis programs, or transplant services is preferred.
* Excellent communication, family counselling, clinical documentation, teamwork, and patient-centered care skills.
