Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Nephrologist will provide advanced renal care for children with congenital, acute, chronic, and complex kidney disorders requiring long-term clinical follow-up, dialysis oversight,
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric renal conditions including congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, acute kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, and tubular disorders.
* Provide specialist renal consultations for infants, children, and adolescents requiring inpatient care, outpatient follow-up, second opinions, or long-term disease monitoring.
* Oversee pediatric dialysis programs including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, ensuring safe protocols, treatment adequacy, complication prevention, and family understanding.
* Guide renal transplant evaluations, pre-transplant preparation, clinical suitability reviews, family counseling, and post-transplant care coordination.
* Interpret renal imaging, kidney biopsy results, urine studies, kidney function tests, electrolyte profiles, immunology results, and advanced laboratory diagnostics.
* Develop individualized care plans that support disease control, medication safety, growth monitoring, nutrition, school-life balance, and long-term renal protection.
* Collaborate with pediatric urologists, endocrinologists, intensivists, transplant teams, dietitians, radiologists, dialysis nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
* Educate families on disease progression, medication adherence, fluid and diet guidance, dialysis care, warning signs, lifestyle modifications, and long-term treatment expectations.
* Participate in renal case reviews, dialysis governance discussions, transplant meetings, multidisciplinary planning, clinical audits, and patient safety activities.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, dialysis notes, transplant-related documentation, consultation reports, family counseling notes, and follow-up plans in line with healthcare standards.
* Support research, CME activities, quality improvement, and service development related to pediatric kidney care.
* Stay updated with clinical innovation in pediatric nephrology, dialysis care, transplant medicine, renal genetics, hypertension treatment, and evidence-based pediatric renal practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Nephrology such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent.
* SCFHS license or eligibility is required for the actual work location in Saudi Arabia.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in Pediatric Nephrology within a tertiary or academic hospital setting.
* Proven expertise in managing complex pediatric renal cases, pediatric dialysis, chronic kidney disease, congenital kidney disorders, and transplant-related care.
* Strong knowledge of CAKUT, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, acute kidney injury, pediatric hypertension, electrolyte disorders, tubular disorders, and renal replacement therapy.
* Experienced in interpreting renal imaging, biopsy findings, laboratory diagnostics, and transplant evaluation data.
* Excellent communication skills with a family-centered approach to counseling children, parents, and caregivers.
* Able to work effectively with pediatric urology, endocrinology, intensive care, transplant, nutrition, nursing, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
