Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Nephrology will provide specialist care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital, acute, chronic, and complex renal conditions. The role covers pediatric kidney disease diagnosis, dialysis supervision, hypertension management, electrolyte disorder care, transplant evaluation support, renal imaging interpretation, biopsy review, and long-term family education. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric nephrology services in Dubai by combining clinical expertise, multidisciplinary coordination, patient safety, and compassionate communication with children and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric renal conditions, including congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract, nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, acute kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, and tubular disorders.
* Provide detailed pediatric nephrology consultations for inpatient and outpatient cases requiring specialist renal assessment and long-term follow-up.
* Oversee pediatric dialysis programs, including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, with attention to safety, access care, treatment adequacy, and family education.
* Guide renal transplant evaluations, pre-transplant preparation, post-transplant monitoring, immunosuppression follow-up, and multidisciplinary transplant care planning.
* Interpret renal imaging, biopsy results, laboratory investigations, electrolyte profiles, kidney function trends, and advanced diagnostic findings.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, age, disease severity, growth needs, family circumstances, and long-term renal outcomes.
* Collaborate with pediatric urologists, endocrinologists, intensivists, transplant teams, radiologists, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Educate families on disease management, medication adherence, dialysis care, nutrition, lifestyle modification, warning signs, and long-term care expectations.
* Monitor treatment response, adjust management plans, prevent complications, and support continuity of care for chronic pediatric kidney disease.
* Participate in clinical audits, research activities, case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education programs.
* Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, dialysis documentation, transplant-related plans, investigation reviews, consent records, and follow-up reports.
* Ensure clinical practice follows DHA standards, hospital policies, infection control requirements, patient safety protocols, and evidence-based pediatric nephrology guidelines.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Nephrology, such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* DHA license or eligibility as a Consultant Pediatric Nephrologist.
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialization experience in a tertiary care hospital, academic hospital, or advanced pediatric nephrology setting.
* Proven expertise in complex pediatric renal cases, pediatric dialysis, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, nephrotic and nephritic syndromes, and chronic kidney disease.
* Strong experience with peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, renal transplant evaluation, and post-transplant pediatric renal care.
* Ability to interpret renal imaging, biopsy findings, kidney function trends, and advanced laboratory diagnostics.
* Strong communication skills with a family-centered approach to counselling, education, and long-term disease management.
* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary pediatric, urology, intensive care, transplant, and allied healthcare teams.
