Role Context
The
Consultant - Pediatric Neuro-Oncology will provide advanced clinical care for children and adolescents with primary brain tumors, spinal tumors, rare CNS tumors, and treatment-related complications. The position requires strong clinical judgment, compassionate family communication, and close collaboration with pediatric oncology, neurosurgery, neurology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, endocrinology, rehabilitation, psychology, and social care teams. In Dubai’s specialist healthcare sector, this role supports safer treatment pathways, improved continuity of care, stronger pediatric cancer outcomes, and the development of a high-quality neuro-oncology service.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage pediatric CNS tumors including medulloblastoma, ependymoma, gliomas, germ cell tumors, craniopharyngioma, rare pediatric brain tumors, and other complex neuro-oncologic conditions.
* Lead individualized treatment planning for children requiring chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapies, radiotherapy coordination, neurosurgical planning, and long-term follow-up.
* Collaborate with pediatric neurosurgeons on surgical planning, operative timing, biopsy decisions, tumor debulking strategies, and post-surgical oncology management.
* Coordinate radiotherapy planning with radiation oncology teams while considering tumor type, age, neurodevelopmental risks, and long-term side effects.
* Manage treatment-related complications including neurotoxicity, endocrinopathies, neurological deficits, cognitive effects, relapse risk, and survivorship concerns.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient care for newly diagnosed patients, active treatment cases, relapse cases, complex referrals, and long-term survivors.
* Participate in pediatric tumor boards, neuro-oncology meetings, multidisciplinary case discussions, and complex care pathway reviews.
* Review imaging, pathology reports, molecular findings, treatment response, clinical progression, and functional status to guide care decisions.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, risks, and care plans with clarity, compassion, and sensitivity to children and families.
* Support shared decision-making and long-term care planning in collaboration with families, child life specialists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and allied health teams.
* Contribute to the strategic development of pediatric neuro-oncology services, clinical protocols, treatment pathways, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Work closely with pediatric neurology, oncology, neurosurgery, radiology, pathology, rehabilitation, endocrinology, and supportive care teams.
* Mentor junior physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, nurses, and clinical staff involved in pediatric neuro-oncology care.
* Participate in clinical trials, institutional research, case reports, publications, academic conferences, and review activities where available.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, treatment plans, chemotherapy records, imaging review summaries, consent documentation, survivorship care plans, and regulatory medical records.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD, MBBS, or equivalent from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, such as American Board, Canadian Board, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Fellowship training in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology from a recognized center.
* Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialization experience, including consultant-level pediatric neuro-oncology practice.
* Demonstrated expertise in managing complex CNS tumors, pediatric brain tumors, spinal tumors, rare neuro-oncology cases, and advanced treatment protocols.
* Strong knowledge of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy coordination, neurosurgical collaboration, and survivorship care.
* Experience in pediatric tumor boards, multidisciplinary oncology pathways, clinical trials, research, teaching, and program development is highly desirable.
