This position supports high-quality pediatric ophthalmology services for children with conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, rare congenital eye disorders, and complex neuro-ophthalmic or genetic-related eye conditions. The consultant will work closely with pediatricians, neurologists, geneticists, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare teams to improve visual outcomes and support long-term child development.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide expert diagnosis and treatment for pediatric eye conditions including strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, retinopathy of prematurity, and other childhood ocular disorders.
* Perform pediatric ophthalmic surgeries and advanced diagnostic procedures in line with clinical privileges and hospital protocols.
* Manage rare congenital eye disorders and complex pediatric visual conditions using evidence-based assessment and treatment planning.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, geneticists, anesthetists, nurses, orthoptists, and allied healthcare teams for complex case management.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and clinical staff through teaching, case review, and procedural guidance.
* Participate in academic activities, clinical research, departmental education, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties requirements, hospital policies, documentation standards, and clinical governance protocols.
* Support the development of pediatric ophthalmology services, clinical pathways, and community outreach programs.
* Use EMR systems and digital imaging tools to support accurate diagnosis, follow-up, and clinical documentation.
* Communicate clearly with children and families about diagnosis, treatment options, surgery, recovery expectations, and long-term eye health.

Ideal Profile

* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent with completed residency in Ophthalmology.
* Fellowship or subspecialty certification in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
* Board certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Arab Board, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric ophthalmology.
* Eligibility for Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Consultant classification is mandatory.
* Dataflow verification and professional references are required.
* Skilled in pediatric ocular surgery and management of rare congenital eye disorders.
* Strong ability to work with children, families, and multidisciplinary pediatric teams.
* Proficiency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Experience in teaching, clinical research, public health ophthalmology, EMR systems, or digital imaging tools is preferred.
