This role is suitable for a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who can deliver advanced clinical and surgical care for children while contributing to multidisciplinary patient management, teaching, research, and academic development.
The position requires strong diagnostic ability, surgical expertise, and compassionate communication with children and families. The selected consultant will manage pediatric eye disorders, perform specialist procedures, support retinopathy of prematurity screening and treatment, and collaborate with other ophthalmology subspecialists and medical teams to improve long-term visual outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for pediatric patients with eye conditions, visual disorders, and developmental ophthalmic concerns
* Manage amblyopia, strabismus, congenital eye disorders, developmental eye conditions, pediatric cataracts, congenital glaucoma, and complex anterior segment disorders
* Perform pediatric ophthalmology procedures, including strabismus surgery, pediatric cataract surgery, congenital glaucoma procedures, and anterior segment surgeries
* Conduct detailed pediatric eye examinations and develop individualized treatment plans for infants, children, and adolescents
* Provide retinopathy of prematurity screening, follow-up, and treatment support in line with clinical standards
* Collaborate with ophthalmology subspecialists, neonatologists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses, orthoptists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
* Support patients and families with clear counseling on diagnosis, treatment options, surgical planning, expected outcomes, and long-term follow-up
* Manage complex pediatric ophthalmology referrals requiring specialist assessment and coordinated care
* Contribute to teaching, academic initiatives, case discussions, clinical audits, and continuous professional development activities
* Participate in research, quality improvement, and service development within pediatric ophthalmology and specialist eye care
* Maintain accurate medical records in line with DHA requirements, hospital policies, and clinical governance standards
Ideal Profile
The ideal candidate is a Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist with fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, strong post-fellowship experience, and a proven ability to manage complex pediatric eye diseases. The role requires excellent surgical judgment, child-friendly communication, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Board Certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Ophthalmology
* Fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Ophthalmology
* Minimum 5 years of post-fellowship clinical experience
* Strong expertise in pediatric eye disease, strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric cataracts, congenital glaucoma, and anterior segment disorders
* Experience in ROP screening and treatment is strongly preferred
* Ability to collaborate with subspecialists in a multidisciplinary eye care environment
* Teaching, research, academic, or clinical audit experience will be an advantage
* Strong communication, counseling, documentation, and patient care skills
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare setting
