Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist plays a critical role in preserving and improving vision for infants, children, and adolescents through early diagnosis, specialist treatment, and advanced surgical care. This position supports pediatric healthcare excellence by managing complex congenital and developmental eye disorders while contributing to teaching, research, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and treat pediatric eye conditions including strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and rare congenital eye disorders
* Perform pediatric ophthalmic surgeries and advanced diagnostic procedures with high clinical precision
* Manage long-term treatment plans for children requiring ongoing ophthalmic monitoring and specialist intervention
* Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and coordinate early intervention strategies for pediatric patients
* Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, geneticists, neonatologists, and multidisciplinary teams for complex case management
* Supervise junior physicians, residents, and fellows while supporting teaching and clinical mentoring
* Participate in research activities, academic discussions, and continuous medical education programs
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and the development of pediatric ophthalmology services
* Ensure accurate medical documentation and compliance with DHA regulations and hospital governance standards
* Support community outreach programs focused on pediatric eye health awareness and prevention
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent with completed residency in Ophthalmology
* Fellowship or recognized subspecialty certification in Pediatric Ophthalmology
* Board certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Arab Board, or equivalent
* Minimum three to five years of post-fellowship experience in pediatric ophthalmology
* Eligibility for specialist licensing within UAE healthcare authority standards
* Strong expertise in pediatric ocular surgery and congenital eye disorder management
* Excellent communication skills with children, parents, and multidisciplinary clinical teams
* Experience in teaching, clinical research, and digital imaging systems is highly valued
