Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Plastic Surgery will provide specialist surgical assessment, operative care, postoperative management, and long-term follow-up for children requiring reconstructive, craniofacial, hand, burn, scar, trauma, and soft tissue procedures. The role requires precise surgical judgment, compassionate family counselling, detailed treatment planning, and close collaboration with craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, rehabilitation teams, and pediatric subspecialists in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital, traumatic, acquired, cosmetic, and reconstructive pediatric plastic surgery conditions.
* Perform pediatric plastic surgery procedures including cleft lip and palate repair, craniofacial reconstruction, hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, and soft tissue reconstruction.
* Evaluate and manage pediatric trauma cases, complex deformities, wound problems, congenital anomalies, and reconstructive surgical needs.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for infants, children, and adolescents requiring pediatric plastic surgery care.
* Develop individualized surgical treatment plans, postoperative recovery pathways, rehabilitation plans, and long-term follow-up strategies.
* Collaborate with craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation teams, nurses, and allied health professionals.
* Participate in multidisciplinary craniofacial, cleft, burn, trauma, hand surgery, and reconstructive case discussions.
* Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, expected outcomes, risks, recovery timelines, and postoperative care.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, rehabilitation recommendations, and follow-up records.
* Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies, surgical safety standards, infection control practices, and patient safety requirements.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, research activity, teaching programs, continuing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support pediatric plastic surgery service development through evidence-based care, protocol improvement, and multidisciplinary pathway planning.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by UAE healthcare authorities.
* Board certification, fellowship, or recognized specialist qualification in Plastic Surgery.
* Subspecialty experience or advanced training in Pediatric Plastic Surgery is required.
* Valid UAE Consultant License or eligibility in Plastic Surgery.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery within a tertiary care or academic hospital.
* Strong expertise in pediatric reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures.
* Proven experience in cleft lip and palate repair, craniofacial reconstruction, hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, and soft tissue reconstruction.
* Experience in cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary programs will be an advantage.
* Exposure to pediatric microsurgery and complex reconstructive procedures is preferred.
* Academic, teaching, audit, research, or publication experience will strengthen the profile.
* Excellent surgical judgment, communication, documentation, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment with children, families, and specialist teams.
