Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Plastic Surgery will provide specialized surgical care for children with congenital, traumatic, and acquired plastic and reconstructive conditions. The role involves assessment, surgical planning, operative care, postoperative rehabilitation, family counselling, and multidisciplinary coordination with pediatric specialists. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric plastic surgery services in Dubai by delivering safe reconstructive and cosmetic surgical care, supporting clinical quality, and contributing to teaching, research, audits, and continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired pediatric plastic and reconstructive conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
* Perform pediatric plastic surgery procedures including cleft lip repair, cleft palate repair, craniofacial reconstruction, hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, soft tissue reconstruction, and related complex procedures.
* Evaluate and manage pediatric trauma cases requiring reconstructive surgical assessment, urgent intervention, staged correction, or long-term functional recovery planning.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for pediatric plastic surgery patients, including detailed assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
* Collaborate with craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, ENT specialists, orthopedic surgeons, dermatologists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation teams, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Develop individualized surgical, postoperative, and rehabilitation plans based on the child’s diagnosis, age, functional needs, family expectations, and clinical priorities.
* Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, expected outcomes, risks, recovery timelines, and postoperative care.
* Support multidisciplinary cleft, craniofacial, trauma, burn, and complex reconstructive case discussions.
* Maintain accurate medical records, consultation notes, operative reports, consent forms, rehabilitation plans, discharge summaries, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure all clinical care follows DHA requirements, hospital policies, infection control standards, patient safety protocols, and quality improvement frameworks.
* Participate in clinical audits, research, teaching, case reviews, morbidity and mortality meetings, and continuing medical education programs.
* Contribute to a child-focused and family-centered care environment that values safety, compassion, cultural awareness, and long-term quality of life.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or fellowship in Plastic Surgery with subspecialty experience in Pediatric Plastic Surgery.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Plastic Surgery registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery within a tertiary care, academic hospital, or advanced children’s healthcare setting.
* Strong expertise in pediatric reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedures.
* Experience in cleft lip and palate repair, craniofacial reconstruction, pediatric hand surgery, burn reconstruction, scar revision, soft tissue reconstruction, and complex pediatric trauma care.
* Experience in cleft and craniofacial multidisciplinary programs is preferred.
* Exposure to pediatric microsurgery and complex reconstructive procedures is an advantage.
* Academic, audit, research, or teaching experience is preferred.
* Excellent surgical judgment, communication, family counselling, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment.
