Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric PMR will provide expert medical leadership for children requiring rehabilitation after illness, injury, developmental delay, neurological disease, congenital conditions, or long-term physical disability. The position requires detailed functional assessment, individualized treatment planning, spasticity management, mobility evaluation, assistive device recommendations, family counselling, and close coordination with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, orthotics, neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics, nursing, and allied healthcare teams. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric rehabilitation services in Dubai by supporting children toward improved mobility, independence, comfort, participation, and family-centered care.
Core Duties
* Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients with congenital, developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and acquired disabilities.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation treatment plans based on each child’s medical condition, functional goals, developmental stage, mobility needs, family priorities, and long-term care pathway.
* Lead multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, orthotists, nurses, pediatricians, neurologists, orthopedic specialists, and allied health professionals.
* Manage conditions including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, autism-related motor disorders, developmental delays, and complex mobility limitations.
* Perform and supervise rehabilitation procedures including spasticity assessment, botulinum toxin injections, mobility evaluations, orthotic recommendations, assistive device planning, and functional progress reviews.
* Monitor patient progress through clinical assessments, therapy feedback, family reports, functional measures, and rehabilitation outcome indicators.
* Adjust treatment plans to optimize mobility, posture, muscle tone, strength, coordination, communication support, self-care ability, school participation, and quality of life.
* Provide family counselling and education on home care, therapy goals, safe mobility, equipment use, developmental expectations, long-term rehabilitation needs, and complication prevention.
* Coordinate care for children with complex medical needs requiring ongoing rehabilitation, specialist review, adaptive equipment, or community support.
* Maintain accurate documentation, including consultation notes, functional assessments, rehabilitation plans, procedure records, progress updates, and follow-up recommendations.
* Ensure clinical practice follows UAE healthcare regulations, clinical governance standards, patient safety policies, rehabilitation protocols, and evidence-based medical practice.
* Participate in departmental quality initiatives, multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical audits, service improvement projects, and continuous medical education activities.
* Support teaching and guidance for junior physicians, therapists, nurses, and rehabilitation staff involved in pediatric disability care.
* Promote a child-friendly and family-centered approach that respects each patient’s developmental needs, emotional wellbeing, and long-term rehabilitation journey.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Specialist or Consultant qualification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
* Subspecialty training, fellowship, or strong clinical experience in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine is preferred.
* Eligibility for Consultant licensure with Dubai Health Authority or relevant UAE healthcare licensing authority.
* Consultant-level experience managing pediatric rehabilitation patients in a hospital, rehabilitation center, tertiary care, or multidisciplinary pediatric setting.
* Strong expertise in cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, congenital disability, and mobility impairment.
* Experience with spasticity management, botulinum toxin injections, orthotic planning, assistive devices, mobility assessments, and long-term rehabilitation care.
* Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate therapy-led care plans with clear medical oversight.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to counsel families compassionately and explain rehabilitation goals in practical terms.
* Strong clinical judgment, documentation standards, ethical practice, and commitment to child safety.
