Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Pulmonology provides specialist medical care for children with respiratory and pulmonary disorders that require accurate diagnosis, ongoing monitoring, and long-term treatment support. The role combines outpatient consultation, inpatient care, diagnostic review, medication management, family education, and contribution to structured pediatric pulmonary programs.
This position has strong clinical impact because early and effective respiratory care can reduce complications, improve breathing function, prevent hospital admissions, and support better quality of life for pediatric patients. The consultant will also contribute to service development, clinical training, medical education, and evidence-based improvements in pediatric pulmonary care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialized medical care for pediatric patients with respiratory disorders, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, wheezing disorders, and other pulmonary conditions.
* Conduct detailed medical assessments, review patient history, perform physical examinations, request diagnostic tests, and interpret clinical findings.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, severity of illness, age, family needs, medication response, and long-term respiratory health goals.
* Prescribe appropriate medications, inhaled therapies, airway clearance strategies, preventive care plans, and follow-up schedules.
* Monitor patient progress closely and adjust treatment plans based on symptoms, diagnostic results, pulmonary function, and clinical response.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, respiratory therapists, nurses, radiologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide multidisciplinary care.
* Support the development and implementation of pediatric pulmonary healthcare programs, respiratory care pathways, and service improvement initiatives.
* Educate families on inhaler technique, medication adherence, trigger avoidance, disease prevention, home care, emergency warning signs, and lifestyle support.
* Stay updated on advancements in pediatric pulmonology and incorporate safe, evidence-based treatments and techniques into practice.
* Participate in medical education, clinical training, teaching sessions, departmental meetings, audits, and quality improvement activities.
* Maintain accurate and updated medical records, consultation notes, test results, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation in line with DHA requirements.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Completion of specialized training in pediatric pulmonology through diploma, board certification, fellowship, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Western education or Western clinical training is required.
* Active DHA license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a pediatric pulmonologist.
* Strong expertise in pediatric respiratory medicine, asthma care, cystic fibrosis management, bronchitis treatment, pulmonary diagnostics, and long-term respiratory follow-up.
* Ability to interpret diagnostic tests and translate results into practical treatment plans for children and families.
* Excellent communication, family counselling, clinical documentation, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, fast-paced healthcare environment with a compassionate approach to pediatric care.
