Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Pulmonology will provide expert care for pediatric patients with acute, chronic, and complex respiratory conditions. The role includes clinical assessment, diagnostic testing, treatment planning, medication management, long-term follow-up, and collaboration with pediatricians, intensivists, allergists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and allied healthcare teams. The consultant will help strengthen pediatric pulmonary services in Dubai by improving respiratory outcomes, supporting program development, and applying current advances in pediatric pulmonology.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialized medical care for pediatric patients with respiratory disorders, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, chronic cough, recurrent wheeze, sleep-related breathing concerns, and complex lung conditions.
* Conduct thorough clinical assessments, review medical histories, perform respiratory examinations, and identify appropriate diagnostic pathways.
* Request, review, and interpret diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, imaging, laboratory investigations, allergy-related evaluations, and other respiratory assessments.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, patient age, disease severity, clinical findings, and long-term respiratory health goals.
* Prescribe appropriate medication and monitor treatment response, adherence, side effects, and disease control.
* Manage ongoing follow-up for pediatric pulmonary patients and adjust treatment plans according to clinical progress.
* Collaborate with pediatricians, intensivists, allergists, ENT specialists, respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals for multidisciplinary patient care.
* Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management, inhaler use, trigger avoidance, medication adherence, preventive care, and emergency action plans.
* Stay updated with advancements in pediatric pulmonology and incorporate safe, evidence-based techniques and treatments into clinical practice.
* Participate in medical education and training activities for healthcare professionals, students, junior doctors, and clinical team members.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of pediatric pulmonary healthcare programs, care pathways, and service improvement initiatives.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including consultation notes, diagnostic results, treatment plans, prescriptions, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure clinical care follows DHA requirements, hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection control protocols, and international best practices.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Specialized training in Pediatric Pulmonology through diploma, board certification, fellowship, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Western education or training is required.
* Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology registration in Dubai.
* Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a pediatric pulmonologist.
* Strong expertise in managing asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, chronic pediatric respiratory disorders, and complex pulmonary cases.
* Ability to conduct detailed assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and create individualized treatment plans for children.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a family-centered approach to care.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and fast-paced healthcare environment.
