Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Rehabilitation Physician will lead medical rehabilitation for children with congenital, developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and acquired disabilities. The position combines diagnostic assessment, functional evaluation, spasticity management, rehabilitation planning, assistive technology recommendations, and long-term follow-up. Working closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, orthotics, neurology, orthopedics, and other pediatric specialties, the consultant will coordinate treatment around each child\'s functional goals while supporting families through complex and often prolonged rehabilitation journeys.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate pediatric patients with congenital, developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and acquired conditions affecting movement and daily function.
* Diagnose rehabilitation needs and establish individualized treatment plans based on functional limitations, developmental stage, medical status, and family priorities.
* Manage children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, developmental delay, and related rehabilitation conditions.
* Assess children with autism-related motor difficulties and coordinate appropriate rehabilitation interventions when required.
* Lead multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, orthotists, nurses, and pediatric specialists.
* Monitor mobility, strength, tone, coordination, posture, endurance, participation, and activities of daily living over the course of treatment.
* Perform and supervise spasticity management procedures, including botulinum toxin injections where clinically appropriate.
* Recommend orthoses, adaptive equipment, seating systems, mobility aids, and other assistive devices according to individual functional requirements.
* Conduct mobility and functional assessments to support rehabilitation goals and measure progress objectively.
* Use ultrasound guidance for selected rehabilitation procedures when appropriately trained and clinically indicated.
* Adjust treatment plans according to patient response, growth, changing developmental needs, and rehabilitation outcomes.
* Coordinate pediatric neurorehabilitation for patients recovering from brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological illness, or complex surgery.
* Work with orthopedic and neurological teams to determine appropriate non-operative and operative rehabilitation pathways.
* Educate parents and caregivers about positioning, mobility, exercise, equipment use, home programs, and long-term care strategies.
* Counsel families regarding realistic functional goals, rehabilitation expectations, school participation, and community reintegration.
* Maintain complete clinical notes, procedure records, rehabilitation plans, progress assessments, and follow-up documentation.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary case reviews, and rehabilitation service development.
* Contribute to continuing medical education, departmental training, and professional development activities.
* Apply evidence-based rehabilitation practice and maintain high standards of patient safety, clinical governance, and coordinated care.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or completion of recognized specialist training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
* Fellowship, advanced training, or substantial subspecialty experience in Pediatric Rehabilitation.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board experience in pediatric rehabilitation and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation practice.
* Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Strong expertise in pediatric neurorehabilitation and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
* Demonstrated experience managing children with cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, developmental disabilities, and acquired neurological injuries.
* Practical experience in pediatric spasticity management and botulinum toxin treatment is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with advanced rehabilitation technologies, mobility systems, orthotics, and assistive devices.
* Training or experience in ultrasound-guided rehabilitation procedures is advantageous.
* Experience within an internationally accredited or tertiary healthcare facility is preferred.
