Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Rehabilitation provides specialist medical care for children with congenital, neurological, developmental, musculoskeletal, and acquired disabilities. The role focuses on functional assessment, rehabilitation planning, mobility improvement, spasticity control, caregiver education, and long-term support for children requiring structured rehabilitation services.
This position has a direct impact on child development, physical independence, family confidence, and participation in daily activities. The consultant will guide multidisciplinary rehabilitation pathways for conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, autism-related motor difficulties, developmental delays, and complex mobility limitations.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients with congenital, developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, and acquired disabilities.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation treatment plans based on each child’s functional goals, medical condition, developmental stage, mobility needs, and family priorities.
* Lead multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, nurses, orthotists, and pediatric subspecialists.
* Manage pediatric rehabilitation conditions including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, autism-related motor disorders, developmental delays, and neuromuscular conditions.
* Perform and supervise rehabilitation procedures, including spasticity management, botulinum toxin injections, orthotic recommendations, mobility assessments, and functional evaluations.
* Monitor patient progress through clinical review, functional outcome tracking, caregiver feedback, and treatment plan adjustment.
* Recommend assistive devices, mobility aids, adaptive equipment, orthoses, and rehabilitation technologies where appropriate.
* Provide family counselling, caregiver education, home program guidance, long-term care planning, and support for school or community participation.
* Work with pediatricians, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, therapists, psychologists, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure integrated care.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, rehabilitation plans, procedure documentation, progress reports, and follow-up records in line with DHA requirements.
* Participate in departmental quality initiatives, clinical audits, case discussions, teaching sessions, and continuing medical education activities.
* Follow clinical governance standards, patient safety requirements, confidentiality rules, infection control protocols, and evidence-based pediatric rehabilitation practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Board certification, recognized residency completion, or fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with subspecialty expertise in Pediatric Rehabilitation.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority Consultant PM&R registration.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board experience in pediatric rehabilitation and PM&R practice.
* Strong expertise in pediatric neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, functional assessment, developmental disability care, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation management.
* Experience in pediatric spasticity management, botulinum toxin treatment, orthotic planning, ultrasound-guided procedures, and assistive technology is preferred.
* Exposure to internationally accredited healthcare facilities, advanced rehabilitation technologies, or complex pediatric rehabilitation programs is an advantage.
* Excellent leadership, communication, patient counselling, family education, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an advantage.
