Role Context
The Consultant Pediatric Surgeon is responsible for managing complex pediatric surgical cases and ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment for young patients. This role supports hospital excellence by leading surgical interventions, mentoring junior clinicians, and contributing to quality improvement, research, and multidisciplinary case management across pediatric healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver specialized surgical care for pediatric patients including newborns, infants, children, and adolescents
* Perform diagnostic, emergency, and therapeutic surgical procedures within pediatric surgery privileges
* Conduct daily ward rounds and review inpatient progress with accurate treatment planning
* Develop multidisciplinary care pathways in collaboration with pediatricians, anesthetists, intensivists, and nursing teams
* Supervise residents, junior doctors, and surgical trainees while supporting their clinical development
* Maintain complete and timely patient documentation in accordance with hospital standards and compliance policies
* Participate in departmental reviews, clinical audits, and quality improvement programs
* Provide on-call coverage and emergency surgical response based on departmental schedules
* Protect patient confidentiality, uphold ethical standards, and ensure strict safety protocols
* Contribute to medical research, case studies, publications, and continuous professional education
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized university
* Completion of accredited residency and fellowship in Pediatric Surgery
* Board certification in Pediatric Surgery such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent
* Minimum seven years of post-specialization experience with at least two years in a tertiary care hospital
* Eligibility for licensing with relevant regional health authority requirements
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary clinical teams
* Excellent communication, decision-making, and patient-centered care approach
* Commitment to continuous improvement and academic contribution in pediatric surgery
