Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Surgery will provide comprehensive surgical assessment, operative care, and follow-up management for pediatric patients across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, trauma, and neonatal care settings. The role requires strong expertise in complex pediatric surgery, neonatal malformations, emergency surgical coverage, preoperative planning, postoperative recovery, and coordination with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, and other subspecialty teams in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage a broad range of pediatric surgical conditions, including congenital anomalies, abdominal disorders, thoracic conditions, tumors, traumatic injuries, and acute surgical emergencies.
* Perform elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures with a focus on patient safety, surgical precision, and evidence-based care.
* Manage neonatal surgical cases, including congenital malformations, complex neonatal emergencies, and conditions requiring urgent multidisciplinary support.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for infants, children, and adolescents requiring pediatric surgical evaluation.
* Develop individualized preoperative and postoperative management plans based on patient condition, surgical risk, clinical findings, and family needs.
* Collaborate with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, emergency medicine, oncology, nursing, and other subspecialty teams for integrated patient care.
* Participate in emergency surgical coverage and pediatric trauma care, including rapid assessment, operative planning, and postoperative monitoring.
* Apply minimally invasive pediatric surgical techniques where appropriate and clinically indicated.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and follow-up records.
* Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, hospital policies, infection control standards, surgical safety protocols, and clinical governance requirements.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, research activities, teaching programs, and continuing medical education.
* Support quality improvement initiatives focused on pediatric surgical outcomes, neonatal care pathways, infection prevention, and patient safety.
* Communicate clearly with parents and caregivers regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, recovery expectations, and long-term care plans.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by UAE healthcare authorities.
* Board certification, fellowship, or recognized specialist qualification in Pediatric Surgery.
* Valid UAE Consultant License or eligibility in Pediatric Surgery.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in a tertiary care or academic hospital.
* Strong expertise in neonatal surgery, complex pediatric surgical procedures, emergency pediatric surgery, and trauma-related surgical care.
* Experience in minimally invasive pediatric surgery will be an advantage.
* Exposure to pediatric trauma services, neonatal intensive care collaboration, and multidisciplinary pediatric surgical programs is preferred.
* Academic, teaching, audit, or research experience will strengthen the profile.
* Excellent surgical judgment, communication, documentation, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment with children, families, and specialist clinical teams.
