Role Context
The Consultant - Pediatric Surgery will provide expert surgical care for pediatric patients requiring diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency, and complex operative management. The position involves daily clinical decision-making, ward rounds, treatment planning, emergency response, team leadership, and collaboration with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, emergency medicine, and other specialties. The consultant will help improve pediatric surgical outcomes in Dubai through safe practice, accurate documentation, family-centered communication, and continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality surgical care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital, acquired, traumatic, and emergency surgical conditions.
* Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the approved scope of pediatric surgery privileges.
* Conduct daily ward rounds, review patient progress, and formulate clear multidisciplinary treatment plans.
* Manage pediatric surgical cases across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and operative settings.
* Provide on-call coverage and respond to pediatric surgical emergencies according to departmental schedules.
* Collaborate with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, emergency medicine, oncology, nursing, and other specialties for complex case management.
* Supervise junior medical staff, residents, and clinical team members while supporting training, feedback, and performance development.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical records, consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
* Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs.
* Uphold patient rights, confidentiality, informed consent standards, infection control requirements, and hospital safety protocols.
* Engage in research, publications, continuous medical education, and evidence-based improvements in pediatric surgery practice.
* Support clinical innovation, service development, and improved care pathways for pediatric surgical patients and families.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited residency and fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery.
* Board certification in Pediatric Surgery, such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent recognized qualification.
* Eligibility for consultant-level licensing with the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
* Minimum 7 years of post-specialization experience in pediatric surgery.
* At least 2 years of experience in a tertiary care center or advanced pediatric surgical unit.
* Strong expertise in neonatal, infant, child, and adolescent surgical care.
* Proven ability to manage complex pediatric cases, surgical emergencies, and multidisciplinary treatment pathways.
* Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, clinical documentation, and team coordination skills.
* Experience in teaching, research, publications, clinical audits, or quality improvement is preferred.
