The Consultant - Pediatric Surgery will provide advanced surgical expertise for children requiring planned, urgent, and emergency procedures. The role has direct clinical impact because pediatric surgery demands precise diagnosis, careful perioperative planning, age-specific surgical judgment, and close collaboration with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, nursing, and other subspecialty teams. Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage a wide range of pediatric surgical conditions including congenital anomalies, abdominal disorders, thoracic conditions, tumors, trauma, and complex surgical referrals.
* Perform elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures for infants, children, and adolescents using safe, evidence-based operative techniques.
* Manage neonatal surgical cases involving congenital malformations, intestinal obstruction, abdominal wall defects, thoracic abnormalities, and other complex neonatal emergencies.
* Provide inpatient consultations, outpatient assessments, second opinions, preoperative evaluations, and long-term follow-up for pediatric surgical patients.
* Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatric intensivists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, pediatricians, nurses, and allied healthcare teams to deliver integrated care.
* Participate in emergency surgical coverage, trauma response, urgent operative decision-making, and stabilization planning for pediatric patients.
* Develop individualized preoperative and postoperative management plans based on diagnosis, age, clinical risk, surgical complexity, and recovery needs.
* Monitor post-surgical recovery, wound healing, complications, pain control, nutrition support, discharge readiness, and follow-up requirements.
* Apply minimally invasive pediatric surgical techniques where clinically appropriate and available.
* Review imaging, laboratory findings, clinical assessments, and multidisciplinary recommendations to support accurate surgical planning.
* Communicate clearly with parents and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, expected outcomes, recovery timelines, and long-term care plans.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, discharge summaries, follow-up plans, and regulatory medical documentation.
* Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, surgical safety protocols, patient safety requirements, and applicable UAE healthcare regulations.
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, research activity, teaching programs, continuing medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support junior doctors, surgical trainees, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals through clinical supervision, mentoring, and case-based teaching.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Pediatric Surgery.
* Valid consultant license or eligibility letter in Pediatric Surgery from the relevant healthcare authority is preferred.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric surgery within a tertiary care or academic hospital setting.
* Strong expertise in neonatal surgery, complex pediatric surgical procedures, emergency surgery, and congenital anomaly management.
* Experience in minimally invasive pediatric surgery is an advantage.
