The Consultant Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician will lead the assessment and long-term management of patients whose injuries, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal disorders, or chronic illnesses limit physical function and independence. The role combines medical evaluation, rehabilitation planning, functional restoration, assistive technology, therapeutic coordination, and outcome monitoring. By working closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation nurses, and other medical specialists, the consultant will help patients achieve realistic functional goals and improve participation in daily life.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive medical and functional assessments for patients with physical impairment, disability, neurological disease, musculoskeletal injury, and chronic rehabilitation needs.
* Evaluate mobility, strength, coordination, endurance, pain, activities of daily living, and other factors affecting functional independence.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation programs aligned with each patient\'s diagnosis, functional limitations, medical status, and personal goals.
* Coordinate exercise therapy, functional training, physical modalities, assistive devices, and other rehabilitation interventions.
* Provide medical oversight for patients receiving complex multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
* Lead rehabilitation teams involving physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation nurses, and relevant medical specialists.
* Manage patients with neuromuscular conditions, neurological injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, chronic pain, and acquired physical disability.
* Review treatment response and modify rehabilitation strategies according to measurable functional progress.
* Recommend appropriate mobility aids, orthoses, adaptive equipment, and assistive technologies to support independence.
* Coordinate rehabilitation following surgery, major trauma, neurological events, prolonged hospitalization, or functional deterioration.
* Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences, care-planning meetings, discharge discussions, and rehabilitation rounds.
* Establish realistic short-term and long-term functional goals with patients, families, and rehabilitation professionals.
* Educate patients and families regarding injury prevention, safe mobility, functional adaptation, home rehabilitation, and long-term wellness strategies.
* Support return-to-community, work, school, or independent living goals where clinically appropriate.

* MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical qualification from an accredited institution.
