Role Context
The Consultant Physician - Fetal Medicine will provide specialized clinical care for expectant mothers and unborn babies, with responsibility for fetal diagnosis, risk assessment, treatment planning, counselling, and intervention when required. The role supports safer pregnancy outcomes by combining advanced ultrasound expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, timely documentation, and clear communication with families during sensitive clinical situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose, evaluate, and manage fetal abnormalities using advanced ultrasound, fetal imaging, and other diagnostic tools
* Provide detailed consultation and counselling to parents-to-be regarding findings, risks, prognosis, and available treatment options
* Review medical history, conduct relevant clinical assessments, and order appropriate investigations to support fetal and maternal care planning
* Discuss risks and benefits of treatment options with patients and families, offering clear evidence-based recommendations
* Coordinate with obstetricians, neonatologists, geneticists, surgeons, midwives, and other specialists to create individualized care plans
* Perform or support fetal interventions such as fetal blood transfusion, fetoscopic surgery, intrauterine procedures, and related advanced fetal therapies within scope of expertise
* Monitor patient progress and update treatment plans according to clinical findings and multidisciplinary recommendations
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of consultations, imaging findings, procedures, counselling discussions, and follow-up plans
* Stay updated with advancements in fetal medicine through conferences, workshops, research, and continuous professional development
* Support a calm, professional, and patient-centered environment for families managing complex pregnancy concerns
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution
* Certification in Fetal Medicine from a recognized body
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Fetal Medicine in a reputable healthcare institution
* Western education or training in a recognized healthcare system such as the USA, UK, Canada, or equivalent is mandatory
* Valid medical license to practice in the UAE is required
* Strong expertise in advanced fetal imaging, prenatal diagnostics, fetal abnormality assessment, and high-risk pregnancy care
* Practical experience with fetal interventions, intrauterine procedures, or fetal therapy programs is highly valued
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for counselling families through sensitive medical information
* Ability to work confidently in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage
