Role Context
The Consultant Physician - OMF Surgery provides expert surgical care for patients requiring cleft lip and palate management, oral and maxillofacial procedures, facial reconstruction, and coordinated craniofacial treatment. The role requires strong clinical judgment, advanced operative skill, and the ability to guide patients through complex surgical pathways from assessment to recovery.
This position supports functional, aesthetic, speech, dental, and quality-of-life outcomes for patients with congenital and acquired facial conditions. The consultant will work closely with ENT, plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, anesthesia, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure integrated care for each patient.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage cleft lip and palate conditions in pediatric and adult patients, including clinical assessment, treatment planning, surgical intervention, and follow-up care.
* Perform advanced oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures involving the jaws, facial bones, oral structures, soft tissue, facial trauma, and reconstructive correction.
* Evaluate patients with congenital craniofacial abnormalities, facial injuries, jaw deformities, oral pathology, and complex maxillofacial conditions.
* Develop individualized surgical strategies based on patient age, diagnosis, imaging results, functional needs, clinical risk, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
* Collaborate with ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, rehabilitation teams, and nursing staff.
* Manage pre-operative and post-operative care with attention to patient safety, consent, pain control, infection prevention, recovery planning, and complication management.
* Participate in craniofacial team meetings, complex case reviews, surgical planning sessions, and interdisciplinary care discussions.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative records, consent documentation, clinical reports, and follow-up plans.
* Support clinical audits, quality improvement activity, teaching, and continuous medical education within the surgical service.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical expectations, risks, recovery timelines, and long-term care.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with recognized specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Fellowship, board certification, or equivalent qualification in a relevant surgical specialty.
* Active DHA license or DHA license eligibility is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, cleft lip and palate management, craniofacial care, or reconstructive surgery.
* Strong expertise in congenital craniofacial conditions, cleft correction, facial trauma, jaw surgery, reconstructive procedures, and multidisciplinary surgical planning.
* Ability to manage complex pediatric and adult cases using safe, evidence-based, and patient-focused clinical decision-making.
* Excellent communication skills for patient counselling, family discussions, surgical consent, team coordination, and clinical documentation.
* Strong collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across ENT, plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech therapy, pediatrics, and related specialties.
