Role Context
The Consultant Physician - OMF Surgery will provide advanced diagnosis, surgical planning, and operative care for patients with cleft lip and palate conditions, craniofacial abnormalities, facial trauma, jaw disorders, and reconstructive surgical needs. The position supports specialist surgical services by combining technical precision, multidisciplinary coordination, long-term treatment planning, and strong clinical governance. The consultant will help improve functional, aesthetic, and quality-of-life outcomes for pediatric and adult patients requiring oral and maxillofacial expertise.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage cleft lip and palate conditions in pediatric and adult patients, ensuring complete assessment and appropriate long-term care planning.
* Perform advanced oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including reconstructive, corrective, trauma-related, and congenital craniofacial surgeries.
* Evaluate facial trauma, jaw deformities, oral defects, and maxillofacial abnormalities using clinical examination, imaging review, and specialist judgment.
* Develop individualized treatment plans and surgical strategies based on diagnosis, age, function, aesthetic goals, risk profile, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
* Coordinate care with ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Support staged treatment pathways for cleft lip and palate patients, including preoperative evaluation, surgical intervention, follow-up, and rehabilitation planning.
* Ensure patient safety, informed consent, accurate documentation, infection control, and high-quality surgical outcomes across all clinical activities.
* Provide clear communication to patients and families regarding diagnosis, procedure options, recovery expectations, risks, and follow-up requirements.
* Participate in clinical audits, case reviews, teaching sessions, quality improvement activities, and continuous medical education programs.
* Maintain current knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery techniques, cleft care protocols, reconstructive methods, and international best practices.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary decision-making for complex cases requiring coordinated medical, surgical, dental, speech, and rehabilitation input.
Ideal Profile
* Medical Degree with recognized specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Fellowship, board certification, or equivalent specialist qualification in a relevant surgical specialty.
* DOH license eligibility or active DOH license is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
* Strong clinical background in cleft lip and palate management, craniofacial surgery, facial trauma, and reconstructive procedures.
* Skilled in surgical assessment, operative planning, multidisciplinary case coordination, patient counseling, and postoperative follow-up.
* Experience working with pediatric and adult patients requiring staged or complex maxillofacial treatment.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex surgical plans clearly to patients, families, and clinical teams.
* Strong commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, clinical documentation, and evidence-based surgical care.
* Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment and contribute to teaching, audits, and service improvement.
