Role Context
The Consultant Physician - Pediatric Emergency will provide advanced emergency medical care for pediatric patients across a wide range of urgent and life-threatening conditions. The role has a direct impact on patient safety, emergency department flow, family-centered care, and clinical outcomes by combining rapid diagnosis, decisive treatment, resuscitation leadership, and strong collaboration with pediatric ICU, surgery, laboratory, and allied health teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-standard emergency care for pediatric patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
* Assess, stabilize, and manage acute medical, surgical, respiratory, infectious disease, and trauma-related emergencies
* Lead pediatric resuscitation teams during critical cases and support complex triage decision-making
* Provide consultant-level clinical judgement for urgent presentations, deterioration risks, and emergency treatment pathways
* Coordinate care with pediatric ICU, surgical specialties, laboratory services, imaging teams, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals
* Supervise junior physicians and support safe clinical practice across pediatric emergency protocols
* Mentor doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in emergency care standards, trauma response, and pediatric patient safety
* Contribute to departmental audits, training programs, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives
* Support research, service development, and innovation in pediatric emergency medicine where applicable
* Ensure clinical documentation, procedures, and patient management follow MOH, JCIA, and hospital regulatory standards
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized medical institution
* Completion of pediatric and emergency medicine training
* Board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine such as American Board, UK CCT, or an equivalent recognized qualification
* Minimum 5 years of post-specialty clinical experience in pediatric emergency medicine
* Experience in a tertiary-care hospital or advanced emergency department environment is preferred
* Eligibility for Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Consultant classification
* Strong capability in managing pediatric trauma, resuscitation, respiratory distress, infectious disease emergencies, and acute surgical presentations
* Demonstrated leadership in fast-paced, high-pressure clinical environments
* Family-centered approach with strong cultural awareness and compassionate communication
* Familiarity with EMR systems and international hospital quality standards
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage
