Role Context
The Consultant Physician - Pediatric Intensive Care will provide consultant-level leadership in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, managing high-acuity pediatric patients who require advanced monitoring, organ support, mechanical ventilation, and complex treatment planning. The role supports patient survival, safety, family confidence, and clinical excellence through rapid decision-making, evidence-based critical care, multidisciplinary coordination, and strong supervision of the PICU team.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver expert intensive care for critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical, surgical, respiratory, cardiac, neurological, and multi-organ conditions
* Assess high-acuity patients, identify clinical deterioration, and create individualized PICU treatment plans
* Perform and supervise advanced pediatric critical care procedures, including mechanical ventilation, ECMO support, invasive monitoring, and emergency stabilization
* Monitor patient progress closely and adjust treatment plans based on clinical response, diagnostic findings, and evolving care needs
* Collaborate with pediatricians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and allied health professionals
* Lead multidisciplinary discussions for complex PICU cases and ensure coordinated care across specialties
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, fellows, nurses, and clinical staff in pediatric critical care protocols and safe emergency response
* Contribute to clinical education programs, simulation training, CME activities, and knowledge-sharing within the department
* Lead quality improvement initiatives and support international standards for PICU safety, infection control, documentation, and clinical governance
* Participate in clinical research and remain updated with advances in pediatric intensive care, life-support technologies, and PICU best practices
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with families regarding patient condition, treatment options, risks, and ongoing care plans
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MD or equivalent from a recognized institution
* Board certification in Pediatric Intensive Care or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
* Western training from the USA, UK, Canada, or equivalent recognized system is mandatory
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-board experience in a consultant PICU role
* Eligible for DHA Consultant licensure in Dubai
* Proven expertise in advanced pediatric critical care techniques, mechanical ventilation, ECMO, invasive monitoring, and emergency stabilization
* Strong experience managing critically ill children in a tertiary hospital or high-acuity pediatric intensive care setting
* Excellent leadership, communication, crisis management, and clinical decision-making skills
