The Consultant Plastic Surgeon - Microvascular Surgery will provide advanced reconstructive care for patients requiring restoration of form, function, and tissue integrity following cancer treatment, trauma, congenital conditions, or complex surgical defects. The position requires exceptional microsurgical technique, detailed operative planning, and close coordination with oncology, orthopedics, ENT, trauma, radiology, anesthesia, and rehabilitation teams. Strong clinical leadership will support safe reconstruction, improved functional outcomes, and comprehensive recovery pathways.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform complex microvascular and reconstructive surgical procedures according to patient-specific clinical requirements.
* Undertake free tissue transfer and microsurgical reconstruction where appropriate.
* Manage patients requiring breast reconstruction following oncological or other surgical treatment.
* Perform head and neck reconstruction for complex tissue defects.
* Provide limb reconstruction following trauma, oncological resection, or other extensive tissue loss.
* Manage complex traumatic defects requiring soft-tissue coverage and reconstructive intervention.
* Conduct detailed pre-operative assessments and determine suitable reconstructive strategies.
* Review imaging, clinical findings, and surgical history when planning complex procedures.
* Develop individualized operative plans based on anatomy, functional requirements, tissue availability, and patient goals.
* Provide comprehensive postoperative monitoring and follow-up following microsurgical procedures.
* Assess flap viability and identify postoperative complications requiring timely intervention.
* Coordinate patient care with surgeons, oncologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, rehabilitation specialists, and other clinical teams.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings involving complex reconstructive cases.
* Counsel patients regarding surgical options, expected outcomes, potential complications, recovery, and rehabilitation.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, and follow-up records.
* Ensure compliance with clinical governance, infection control, surgical safety, and patient care standards.
* Contribute to departmental quality improvement programs and clinical audits.
* Support teaching, mentoring, and professional development activities for junior medical staff.

* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Specialist or Consultant qualification in Plastic Surgery.
