Role Context
The Consultant PMR - Rehabilitation Medicine will provide expert clinical leadership for patients with physical impairments, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, mobility restrictions, and complex disability needs. The role supports recovery-focused healthcare by connecting medical assessment, therapy planning, assistive technology, functional training, family education, and long-term rehabilitation goals into one coordinated care pathway. The consultant will work with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation nurses, and other specialists to improve patient outcomes and strengthen rehabilitation service quality.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive medical and functional assessments for patients with physical injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological conditions, neuromuscular disease, chronic disability, and reduced mobility.
* Develop individualized rehabilitation plans focused on restoring movement, improving independence, reducing complications, and supporting long-term quality of life.
* Lead multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs that combine medical care, therapy input, functional goals, assistive devices, and structured progress monitoring.
* Use evidence-based rehabilitation approaches including exercise therapy, manual therapy coordination, electrotherapy guidance, functional training, mobility support, and adaptive equipment planning.
* Collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation nurses, orthopedic teams, neurology teams, and other healthcare professionals.
* Monitor patient progress through clinical review, functional outcome measures, therapy feedback, and patient-reported goals, adjusting treatment plans when required.
* Provide patient and family education on injury prevention, safe mobility, home adaptation, assistive device use, long-term wellness, and realistic recovery expectations.
* Participate in case conferences, interdisciplinary rounds, care planning meetings, discharge planning, and complex rehabilitation reviews.
* Support patients with chronic conditions by creating long-term management strategies that promote function, independence, and reduced hospital dependency.
* Ensure clinical documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with UAE healthcare standards, clinical governance requirements, and rehabilitation service policies.
* Contribute to departmental development, service improvement, staff training, clinical protocols, and quality initiatives.
* Stay updated with advances in rehabilitation medicine, PMR technologies, therapeutic techniques, assistive devices, and evidence-based functional recovery programs.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
* Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
* Minimum 5 years of post-certification experience, preferably in a hospital, tertiary care setting, or specialized rehabilitation center.
* Strong clinical knowledge of rehabilitation medicine, musculoskeletal recovery, neurological rehabilitation, disability management, pain-related functional limitation, and chronic condition care.
* Experienced in leading multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams and coordinating patient-centered recovery plans.
* Confident in using modern rehabilitation technologies, assistive devices, treatment techniques, functional assessment methods, and outcome-based rehabilitation protocols.
* Excellent communication and patient-counselling skills with the ability to motivate patients and guide families through long recovery pathways.
* Able to work effectively with therapists, nurses, psychologists, specialists, and allied health teams in a collaborative clinical environment.
* Fluency in English is required; Arabic language ability is an advantage.
