Role Context
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide specialist assessment and long-term management for adults with a broad spectrum of psychiatric and behavioral health conditions. The role combines diagnostic evaluation, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, crisis management, inpatient and outpatient care, and close collaboration with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, and other specialists. Fluency in Arabic and English will support clearer communication, stronger therapeutic relationships, and culturally responsive care for patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for patients presenting with acute, chronic, or complex mental health conditions.
* Diagnose and manage anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and related psychiatric illnesses.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, clinical severity, psychosocial factors, treatment history, and patient goals.
* Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications according to evidence-based treatment standards.
* Evaluate medication response, adverse effects, adherence, and potential drug interactions during follow-up.
* Provide psychotherapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions where clinically appropriate and within scope of practice.
* Manage inpatient psychiatric cases requiring close monitoring, medication stabilization, or multidisciplinary intervention.
* Provide outpatient psychiatric consultations and long-term follow-up for chronic mental health conditions.
* Deliver crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric assessment for patients experiencing acute behavioral or psychological deterioration.
* Assess risk related to self-harm, harm to others, severe functional decline, or psychiatric instability and coordinate appropriate escalation.
* Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, and allied mental health professionals.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences involving complex psychiatric, neurological, medical, and psychosocial needs.
* Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, medication use, relapse warning signs, and preventive mental health strategies.
* Communicate fluently in Arabic and English with patients and families to support understanding, trust, and informed decision-making.
* Maintain accurate psychiatric assessments, progress notes, medication records, risk assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.

* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or Fellowship in Psychiatry.

* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputable hospital or mental health center.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry and management of complex psychiatric conditions.
