Role Context
The
Consultant Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, treatment, and follow-up for adults with acute and chronic mental health conditions. The role combines diagnostic evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, emergency psychiatric care, and multidisciplinary coordination. Fluency in Arabic and English will enable the consultant to communicate effectively with patients and families, improve treatment engagement, and deliver culturally responsive psychiatric care across diverse clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed psychiatric assessments for patients presenting with acute, chronic, or complex mental health concerns.
* Diagnose and manage depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, PTSD, and other psychiatric conditions.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, severity, medical history, psychosocial factors, and patient goals.
* Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications using evidence-based psychiatric guidelines.
* Evaluate therapeutic response, adverse effects, medication adherence, and potential drug interactions.
* Provide psychotherapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions where clinically appropriate.
* Manage inpatient psychiatric cases requiring stabilization, close observation, or intensive treatment.
* Conduct outpatient consultations and provide long-term follow-up for chronic mental health conditions.
* Deliver crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric assessment when urgent care is required.
* Perform risk assessments for self-harm, suicide, aggression, vulnerability, and clinical deterioration.
* Coordinate treatment with psychologists, neurologists, primary care physicians, social workers, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions for patients with complex psychiatric, behavioral, neurological, or psychosocial needs.
* Educate patients and families about diagnosis, medication, relapse prevention, recovery planning, and long-term mental health management.
* Provide culturally sensitive psychiatric consultations in Arabic and English.
* Support community psychiatry and integrated mental health initiatives where applicable.
* Maintain accurate psychiatric evaluations, treatment plans, medication records, risk assessments, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure confidentiality and uphold ethical, legal, and professional standards throughout clinical practice.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, morbidity reviews, and mental health governance activities.
* Contribute to research, continuing medical education, case presentations, and departmental learning.
* Support supervision and professional development of junior physicians and multidisciplinary mental health staff.
* Remain current with developments in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, behavioral health, and evidence-based psychiatric care.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board Certification or Fellowship in Psychiatry.
* Appropriate UAE Consultant License or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputable hospital or mental health center.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry and complex mental health management.
* Demonstrated experience managing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and PTSD.
* Advanced knowledge of psychopharmacology and long-term psychiatric medication management.
* Practical experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.
* Ability to manage high-risk psychiatric cases and emergency mental health presentations.
* Experience with psychotherapy and behavioral therapy approaches is advantageous.
