The Consultant - Psychiatry will provide specialist clinical leadership for patients experiencing mental health conditions that require accurate diagnosis, structured treatment planning, careful medication review, and ongoing therapeutic support. Key Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, and manage psychiatric disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, trauma-related conditions, behavioral health concerns, and other mental health presentations.
* Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, risk assessments, diagnostic formulation, and individualized treatment planning.
* Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while reviewing treatment response, side effects, safety risks, and long-term care needs.
* Conduct psychotherapy, counselling, supportive interventions, and behavioral management approaches where clinically appropriate.
* Manage inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases, including new referrals, follow-up consultations, relapse prevention, and complex mental health reviews.
* Provide crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric care for patients presenting with acute distress, severe symptoms, self-harm risk, aggression, psychosis, or urgent behavioral concerns.
* Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, neurologists, primary care physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication adherence, coping strategies, warning signs, and preventive care.
* Communicate clearly in Arabic and English to support accurate assessment, patient trust, family engagement, and culturally aligned psychiatric care.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation, psychiatric assessments, medication records, risk assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, consent documentation, and follow-up reports.
* Ensure full adherence to patient confidentiality, ethical standards, safeguarding requirements, mental health best practices, and applicable healthcare regulations.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, research activity, and continuing medical education programs.
* Support service development through case discussions, multidisciplinary reviews, mental health pathway improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
* Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and professional guidance for junior doctors, trainees, nurses, and allied mental health staff when required.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized medical institution.
* Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Psychiatry.
* Valid consultant license or eligibility letter in Psychiatry from the relevant healthcare authority is preferred.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Psychiatry within a reputed hospital, clinic, or mental health center.
* Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
* Strong expertise in adult psychiatry, psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, crisis intervention, and complex mental health treatment.
* Experience managing anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, behavioral health cases, and emergency psychiatric presentations.
