Role Context
The Consultant Radiologist will provide specialist interpretation of PET-CT and related hybrid imaging studies used in oncology, neurology, cardiology, and other complex diagnostic pathways. The position combines advanced image interpretation, multidisciplinary consultation, radiation safety oversight, reporting quality, and clinical leadership. By integrating metabolic imaging findings with diagnostic CT, SPECT-CT, laboratory data, pathology, and clinical history, the consultant will help improve diagnostic precision, disease staging, treatment selection, and follow-up decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Interpret PET-CT examinations for oncology, neurology, cardiology, and other clinically appropriate indications.
* Review hybrid imaging studies including SPECT-CT and diagnostic CT examinations.
* Correlate metabolic imaging findings with anatomical imaging, pathology, laboratory results, and clinical history.
* Provide accurate assessment of tumor detection, staging, treatment response, recurrence, and metastatic disease.
* Support neurological imaging pathways involving metabolic assessment of selected brain disorders and complex diagnostic cases.
* Interpret cardiac PET-CT or related nuclear medicine studies where appropriate to clinical scope and departmental practice.
* Produce clear, structured, and clinically relevant radiology reports within agreed turnaround times.
* Use PACS and RIS systems effectively for image review, reporting, comparison, and communication of findings.
* Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and provide imaging input for diagnosis, staging, therapeutic planning, and follow-up.
* Collaborate closely with oncologists, neurologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other specialists.
* Review prior imaging studies to identify disease progression, treatment response, or clinically significant interval change.
* Supervise and provide clinical guidance to nuclear medicine technologists, junior radiologists, trainees, and other imaging staff.
* Ensure PET-CT procedures and reporting practices meet radiation safety, quality assurance, and departmental governance requirements.
* Maintain familiarity with radiopharmaceutical indications, biodistribution patterns, tracer kinetics, uptake characteristics, and potential imaging artifacts.
* Identify unexpected or urgent findings and communicate critical results promptly to the responsible clinical team.
* Contribute to protocol optimization for PET-CT acquisition, diagnostic CT integration, patient preparation, and image quality.
* Participate in clinical audits, peer review, discrepancy meetings, quality improvement, and imaging governance activities.
* Support departmental education through case discussions, resident teaching, continuing medical education, and academic presentations.
* Contribute to clinical research, imaging studies, publications, or collaborative academic projects where opportunities arise.
* Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital policies, professional standards, and applicable UAE healthcare regulations.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Completed residency training in Radiology.
* Fellowship or recognized subspecialty training in PET-CT, Nuclear Medicine Imaging, or a closely related field.
* Board Certification such as American Board, UK CCT, Canadian FRCP, or another recognized equivalent qualification.
* Minimum 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience interpreting PET-CT studies.
* Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
* Strong clinical experience in oncologic imaging, metabolic diagnostics, and hybrid imaging interpretation.
* Proficiency in PET-CT reporting with familiarity across oncology, neurology, and cardiology applications.
* Experience interpreting SPECT-CT and diagnostic CT is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of radiopharmaceutical protocols, tracer behavior, normal biodistribution, and clinically significant uptake patterns.
* Comfortable working with modern imaging platforms, PACS, RIS, and structured reporting systems.
