Role Context
The Consultant - Rehabilitation Medicine provides expert medical leadership for patients who need structured recovery after injury, illness, surgery, neurological impairment, or chronic physical limitation. The role requires strong diagnostic ability, careful functional assessment, and the development of treatment pathways that support safe recovery, improved movement, pain reduction, and better daily performance.
Working within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation setting, the consultant will collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, rehabilitation nurses, and other specialists to create integrated care plans. The role has a direct impact on patient independence, long-term wellness, service quality, and clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed medical and functional assessments for patients with physical impairment, musculoskeletal injury, neurological conditions, mobility restrictions, and disability-related needs.
* Design personalized rehabilitation programs that support recovery of strength, movement, balance, coordination, independence, and daily living function.
* Lead multidisciplinary care planning and coordinate treatment goals with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, nursing, and related clinical teams.
* Apply evidence-based rehabilitation methods, including therapeutic exercise planning, functional training, assistive device recommendations, electrotherapy oversight, manual therapy coordination, and mobility restoration strategies.
* Manage rehabilitation care for patients recovering from stroke, spinal conditions, neuromuscular disorders, orthopedic surgery, traumatic injury, chronic pain, and complex functional decline.
* Monitor patient progress through regular clinical reviews, outcome tracking, and treatment plan adjustments.
* Provide clear guidance to patients and families on recovery expectations, home exercises, injury prevention, adaptive techniques, and long-term wellness habits.
* Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, care reviews, and complex patient discussions.
* Maintain accurate patient records, rehabilitation plans, progress documentation, and clinical reports in line with medical governance standards.
* Support quality improvement initiatives, patient safety practices, service development, and evidence-based rehabilitation protocols.
* Contribute to staff education, departmental training, and continuous professional development within rehabilitation medicine.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
* Minimum 5 years of post-certification experience in a hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or specialized rehabilitation center.
* Strong knowledge of physical medicine, neurological rehabilitation, musculoskeletal recovery, functional restoration, disability management, and chronic condition support.
* Practical experience working with multidisciplinary clinical teams and therapy-led rehabilitation pathways.
* Ability to assess complex patient needs and translate findings into realistic, patient-specific treatment plans.
* Strong patient counselling, communication, documentation, and team coordination skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language ability is an added advantage.
