Role Context
The Consultant Surgeon - Breast Oncoplastic will lead the clinical delivery and development of a comprehensive breast service. The role combines advanced surgical skill, cancer care expertise, reconstructive planning, outpatient leadership, multidisciplinary decision-making, patient communication, and quality improvement.
This position has significant impact on early diagnosis, cancer treatment outcomes, cosmetic recovery, patient confidence, and continuity of care. The consultant will help strengthen breast service pathways through MDT participation, audit, morbidity and mortality reviews, teaching, research, and evidence-based clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage benign and malignant breast disease through specialist consultation, diagnostic review, clinical assessment, imaging correlation, biopsy result interpretation, and surgical planning.
* Perform advanced breast cancer and oncoplastic procedures, including therapeutic mammoplasty, volume displacement, volume replacement, breast conservation surgery, mastectomy, and reconstructive planning.
* Provide implant-based and autologous reconstruction support where clinically appropriate and aligned with patient needs.
* Deliver consultant-level outpatient clinics, perioperative care, post-operative follow-up, recurrence monitoring, and long-term breast health surveillance.
* Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings with oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, anesthesia, nursing, and allied health professionals.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, cancer stage, breast anatomy, patient preference, oncologic safety, reconstruction goals, and MDT recommendations.
* Support breast service development through pathway optimization, clinical governance, patient safety initiatives, quality improvement, and international standard alignment.
* Lead clinical audit, morbidity and mortality reviews, outcome monitoring, complication review, and service performance improvement.
* Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, surgical risks, reconstruction choices, recovery timelines, and follow-up plans with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
* Train and mentor junior doctors, nurses, surgical trainees, and allied health professionals involved in breast care.
* Contribute to clinical research, innovation, publication activity, CME programs, and expansion of advanced breast services.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, MDT records, pathology reviews, and long-term follow-up plans in line with DHA requirements.
Ideal Profile
* Board-certified Consultant Breast Surgeon, Oncoplastic Surgeon, or General Surgeon with fellowship training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.
* Active DHA Consultant License or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure.
* Minimum 7-10 years of post-board certification experience in breast oncology, oncoplastic surgery, and breast reconstruction.
* Proven expertise in advanced oncoplastic techniques, including immediate reconstruction, therapeutic mammoplasty, implant-based reconstruction, autologous reconstruction pathways, and symmetrisation.
* Experience working in accredited breast units with strong multidisciplinary team involvement.
* Strong knowledge of benign breast disease, breast cancer treatment, surgical oncology, reconstruction planning, clinical governance, and patient-centered breast care.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills suited to a diverse patient population in Dubai.
* Ability to lead service development, mentor clinical teams, and contribute to quality improvement, audit, research, and academic activity.
