Role Context
The Consultant Surgeon - Breast Surgery provides specialist surgical care for patients with breast-related conditions, including benign breast disease, suspected malignancy, confirmed breast cancer, and cases requiring reconstructive or multidisciplinary management. The role combines surgical precision, oncology awareness, patient education, and long-term treatment coordination.
This position has direct clinical impact on early diagnosis, cancer treatment planning, recovery quality, and patient confidence. The consultant will collaborate with oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals to create comprehensive treatment pathways for each patient.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage breast-related conditions, including benign breast tumors, malignant tumors, inflammatory breast disease, abnormal imaging findings, and complex surgical cases.
* Perform advanced breast surgery procedures, including lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node procedures, axillary surgery, and reconstructive breast surgery coordination.
* Evaluate patients through clinical examination, imaging review, biopsy results, pathology findings, staging information, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
* Develop individualized surgical treatment plans based on diagnosis, cancer stage, patient preference, functional needs, cosmetic considerations, and recovery goals.
* Collaborate with oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other specialists to provide integrated breast care.
* Provide pre-operative counselling, informed consent discussions, surgical preparation, risk explanation, and recovery planning in clear Arabic and English where required.
* Oversee post-operative care, wound assessment, complication prevention, pain management, recovery monitoring, and follow-up planning.
* Use minimally invasive, image-guided, and robotic-assisted surgical techniques where clinically appropriate and available.
* Educate patients on treatment options, surgical outcomes, breast health awareness, preventive care, recurrence monitoring, and long-term follow-up.
* Stay updated on breast surgery, surgical oncology, reconstructive techniques, clinical guidelines, and emerging treatment approaches.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative records, consent forms, multidisciplinary decisions, discharge summaries, and follow-up documentation.
* Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, clinical governance, patient safety standards, infection control protocols, and ethical medical practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Board certification or equivalent specialist qualification in General Surgery with specialization or focused expertise in Breast Surgery.
* Minimum 5-10 years of experience in breast surgery, including oncologic and reconstructive breast procedures.
* Fluent Arabic communication skills are essential, including spoken and written Arabic.
* Western medical training is preferred.
* Strong expertise in breast cancer surgery, benign breast disease management, mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction pathways, and multidisciplinary oncology care.
* Confident ability to manage complex surgical cases with evidence-based judgment, patient safety awareness, and strong operative planning.
* Excellent communication skills for explaining diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, recovery expectations, and long-term follow-up.
* Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to coordinated patient care.
