Role Context
The Consultant Surgeon - Gynecologic Oncology provides specialist surgical and oncologic care for women with suspected or confirmed gynecologic malignancies. The role combines diagnostic evaluation, surgical planning, multidisciplinary treatment coordination, perioperative care, post-operative recovery, and long-term cancer surveillance.
This position has strong clinical impact because timely diagnosis, accurate staging, safe surgery, and coordinated oncology treatment directly influence survival, recovery, and quality of life. The consultant will work closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, anesthesia, nursing, fertility services, palliative care, and supportive care teams to deliver integrated cancer care.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage gynecologic malignancies, including ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, vulvar cancer, endometrial cancer, and complex pre-malignant conditions.
* Perform advanced gynecologic oncology surgeries, including open, minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted procedures where clinically appropriate.
* Develop individualized cancer treatment plans based on diagnosis, staging, imaging, pathology findings, surgical risk, patient preference, and multidisciplinary tumor board recommendations.
* Provide consultant-level perioperative, post-operative, and long-term oncologic care, including follow-up surveillance, complication monitoring, and recovery planning.
* Participate actively in tumor boards, multidisciplinary oncology meetings, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, anesthesia, supportive care, fertility preservation teams, and specialist nurses.
* Assess complex oncologic cases with attention to surgical feasibility, patient safety, fertility considerations, symptom control, and long-term treatment outcomes.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, staging documentation, consent records, pathology reviews, treatment plans, and follow-up records in line with DHA requirements.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, cancer stage, surgical options, risks, recovery expectations, adjuvant therapy needs, and long-term care.
* Contribute to medical education, research activity, clinical mentoring, oncology service improvement, and professional development programs.
* Follow DHA regulations, international oncology standards, infection control protocols, patient confidentiality, and ethical cancer care practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
* Fellowship, CCT, or equivalent UK qualification in Gynecologic Oncology.
* UK-trained candidate is preferred.
* Active DHA license or eligibility for Dubai Health Authority consultant licensure is preferred.
* Minimum 5-7 years of consultant-level experience in gynecologic oncology surgery.
* Strong expertise in complex gynecologic cancer surgery, minimally invasive procedures, robotic-assisted surgery, staging procedures, and multidisciplinary oncology care.
* Proven ability to manage ovarian, cervical, uterine, vulvar, and endometrial cancer cases with safe, evidence-based clinical decision-making.
* Excellent leadership, patient communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical documentation, and surgical planning skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multicultural oncology environment with a patient-centered and compassionate approach.
