Role Context
The Consultant Surgeon - Paediatric Vascular will provide specialist surgical care for young patients with arterial, venous, lymphatic, congenital, traumatic, and complex vascular conditions. The role carries strong clinical importance because pediatric vascular disorders often require precise diagnosis, careful surgical planning, family-centered communication, and close coordination with multiple pediatric subspecialties. The consultant will support safe operative care, structured postoperative recovery, emergency response, and long-term management plans that improve patient function, reduce complications, and strengthen pediatric surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage congenital and acquired vascular conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.
* Perform paediatric vascular surgical procedures including vascular reconstructions, vascular malformation treatment, aneurysm management, and complex vascular access procedures.
* Evaluate pediatric patients with arterial, venous, lymphatic, traumatic, and complex vascular disorders through clinical assessment, imaging review, and multidisciplinary consultation.
* Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for paediatric vascular surgery cases, ensuring accurate assessment and timely treatment decisions.
* Participate in emergency management of pediatric vascular trauma, acute limb ischemia, bleeding complications, and urgent vascular conditions.
* Develop individualized surgical plans, perioperative pathways, postoperative recovery plans, and follow-up schedules for pediatric patients.
* Collaborate with pediatric surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, intensivists, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Support the management of vascular malformations and pediatric vascular anomalies requiring staged care, reconstruction, or hybrid treatment approaches.
* Educate patients and families on diagnosis, surgical options, procedure risks, recovery expectations, wound care, and long-term follow-up requirements.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, postoperative instructions, and clinical documentation in line with UAE healthcare standards.
* Contribute to clinical audits, case reviews, teaching activities, research work, and continuing medical education programs.
* Follow patient safety, infection control, quality improvement, ethical practice, and hospital governance standards across all areas of care.
Ideal Profile
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Board certification or fellowship in Vascular Surgery with subspecialty experience in Paediatric Vascular Surgery.
* Valid UAE consultant license eligibility, with DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Vascular Surgery considered an advantage.
* Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in pediatric vascular surgery within a tertiary care or academic hospital.
* Strong expertise in complex pediatric vascular procedures, reconstructive surgery, vascular access, vascular malformations, aneurysms, and vascular anomalies.
* Experienced in managing arterial, venous, lymphatic, traumatic, and congenital vascular disorders in pediatric patients.
* Exposure to hybrid vascular and endovascular pediatric procedures is an advantage.
* Strong surgical judgment with the ability to manage high-risk cases in a multidisciplinary pediatric environment.
* Excellent communication skills for explaining complex surgical decisions to families and clinical teams.
* Academic, teaching, audit, or research experience is preferred.
* Able to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare setting with empathy, precision, and professionalism.
