Role Context
The Consultant Surgeon - Pediatric
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality surgical care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents requiring diagnostic, therapeutic, elective, emergency, or complex pediatric surgical procedures.
* Perform pediatric surgery procedures within approved privileges, ensuring safe operative planning, precise technique, informed consent, and appropriate postoperative care.
* Conduct daily ward rounds, review clinical progress, assess recovery needs, and formulate multidisciplinary treatment plans for admitted pediatric surgical patients.
* Provide on-call coverage and respond to pediatric surgical emergencies according to departmental schedules and hospital protocols.
* Manage referrals and complex cases in collaboration with neonatology, pediatric ICU, anesthesia, radiology, emergency medicine, oncology, and other specialist teams.
* Supervise junior medical staff, support clinical training, and participate in evaluation, mentoring, and knowledge development activities.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical records, operative notes, consultation reports, discharge summaries, and follow-up documentation in compliance with hospital standards.
* Participate in departmental meetings, multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical audits, morbidity discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Uphold patient rights, confidentiality, infection control, patient safety protocols, and ethical surgical practice at all times.
* Engage in research, publications, medical conferences, continuous medical education, and evidence-based pediatric surgery advancement.
* Support innovation in pediatric surgery by contributing to improved pathways, safer workflows, and better clinical outcomes for children and families.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Completion of accredited residency and fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery.
* Board certification in Pediatric Surgery such as American Board, Royal College, or equivalent.
* Minimum 7 years of post-specialization experience in Pediatric Surgery.
* At least 2 years of experience in a tertiary care center.
* Eligibility for licensing with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties is required for the actual work location.
* Strong experience in neonatal, infant, child, and adolescent surgical care.
* Confident in managing emergency pediatric surgery cases, complex surgical referrals, ward-based care, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
* Proven leadership ability with experience supervising junior doctors and supporting clinical education.
* Excellent communication, decision-making, clinical judgment, and teamwork skills.
* Able to work effectively in a multicultural tertiary healthcare environment with professionalism, empathy, and surgical discipline.
