Role Context
The Critical Care Consultant will provide expert medical leadership for patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, covering diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, monitoring, and ongoing management of complex conditions. The position requires confident decision-making, advanced ICU knowledge, and the ability to guide junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare teams during high-pressure clinical situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide consultant-level care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, including diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and management of complex medical conditions.
* Lead individualized treatment planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including anesthesia, emergency medicine, surgery, cardiology, nursing, and allied health professionals.
* Conduct regular ICU rounds and ensure timely clinical decisions that support patient safety and recovery.
* Supervise junior medical staff and provide guidance on critical care pathways, emergency response, and bedside clinical practice.
* Participate in on-call duties and remain available for urgent ICU consultations, emergency procedures, and escalation cases.
* Maintain accurate medical records, progress notes, treatment plans, and clinical documentation in line with hospital standards.
* Support evidence-based critical care practice by staying updated on new developments, protocols, and international ICU standards.
* Participate in continuous medical education, departmental training, quality improvement, and patient safety programs.
* Act as a mentor and role model for junior doctors, residents, fellows, and ICU nursing staff.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Board certification in Critical Care Medicine or an equivalent recognized qualification.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant in an Intensive Care Unit setting.
* Western education or training is required.
* Strong ability to work under pressure and make fast, well-informed clinical decisions.
* Proven record of delivering high-quality patient care and strong clinical outcomes in ICU environments.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
