Role Context
The Head of Pediatrics will oversee the clinical, operational, and strategic direction of the pediatric department. The position requires a senior physician leader who can balance hands-on clinical excellence with department management, quality improvement, workforce development, and multidisciplinary collaboration across hospital leadership, consultants, specialists, nurses, and allied health teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the Pediatric Department with a clear focus on safe, evidence-based, and family-centered care.
* Oversee pediatric clinical operations, service planning, departmental performance, and long-term development goals.
* Supervise pediatric consultants, specialists, junior doctors, and clinical staff while maintaining strong standards of care.
* Work with hospital leadership on resource planning, staffing models, budgeting priorities, and quality initiatives.
* Ensure departmental practice follows national healthcare regulations, accreditation requirements, and recognized international clinical standards.
* Support multidisciplinary collaboration with emergency medicine, neonatology, surgery, nursing, diagnostics, and allied health teams.
* Promote clinical governance, audit participation, risk management, patient safety, and continuous improvement across pediatric services.
* Mentor physicians and trainees while encouraging research, education, CME activity, and professional development.
* Represent the pediatric department in internal committees, hospital leadership meetings, and external clinical forums.
* Contribute to community outreach, patient education, and initiatives that improve child health awareness and service accessibility.
Ideal Profile
* American Board Certification in Pediatrics is mandatory.
* Minimum 10 years of clinical experience in pediatrics.
* At least 5 years of senior leadership experience within a pediatric department or comparable clinical service.
* Fluent communication skills in Arabic and English.
* Proven background in managing pediatric services within a tertiary, academic, or high-acuity healthcare setting.
* Strong understanding of GCC healthcare systems, patient expectations, and regional cultural context is highly desirable.
* Confident leadership style with the ability to guide consultants, specialists, residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong decision-making ability across clinical operations, service development, governance, and patient safety.
* Excellent mentoring, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
