The Pediatric Psychiatrist - Child Mental Health provides specialist psychiatric care for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral, developmental, and mental health concerns. The role involves careful assessment, family engagement, culturally aware communication, and evidence-based treatment for young patients who may require ongoing clinical support.
This position has strong impact on early intervention, family confidence, school functioning, emotional wellbeing, and long-term mental health outcomes. The psychiatrist will collaborate with psychologists, pediatricians, therapists, nurses, school counselors, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care that respects each child’s clinical, cultural, and family context.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for children and adolescents, including clinical history, developmental background, family concerns, behavioral presentation, and risk evaluation.
* Diagnose and manage a wide range of pediatric mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, behavioral disorders, attention-related concerns, developmental challenges, trauma-related symptoms, and complex emotional difficulties.
* Develop individualized treatment plans that may include psychotherapy pathways, medication management, family education, behavioral strategies, school support, and follow-up care.
* Provide ongoing clinical monitoring to evaluate treatment response, medication safety, symptom progress, family feedback, and functional improvement.
* Work collaboratively with psychologists, pediatricians, therapists, nurses, school counselors, and other professionals involved in child and adolescent care.
* Engage parents and families with clear guidance, emotional support, psychoeducation, and practical recommendations in Arabic and English as needed.
* Communicate diagnosis, care plans, treatment risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements in a culturally sensitive and age-appropriate manner.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records in line with clinical, legal, and ethical standards.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, clinical meetings, care reviews, and patient safety processes.
* Follow DHA regulations, professional ethics, safeguarding standards, confidentiality requirements, and best-practice psychiatric care guidelines.
* Support a child-centered care environment that promotes trust, dignity, family participation, and safe mental health treatment.
Ideal Profile
* CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
* Eligibility for DHA licensure or active DHA license.
* Fluency in Arabic is essential, with strong English communication skills required.
* Proven experience working with children and adolescents in a clinical mental health or psychiatric care setting.
* Strong diagnostic ability across pediatric psychiatric, behavioral, emotional, and developmental presentations.
* Ability to create practical treatment plans that involve patients, families, schools, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
* Experience working in the Middle East or with Arabic-speaking populations is preferred.
* Compassionate, patient-centered approach with strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
