What does a Radiation Oncologist do?
- Delivers targeted radiation therapy to treat cancer effectively while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue
- Develops individualized treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary medical team
- Monitors patient responses and adjusts therapy plans accordingly to optimize clinical outcomes
What are the key responsibilities?
- Evaluate patients’ medical history, diagnostic reports, and condition to determine treatment suitability
- Design and oversee precise radiation treatment plans using state-of-the-art equipment
- Consult with medical oncologists, surgeons, and radiologists for integrated patient care
- Explain procedures, side effects, and aftercare clearly to patients and families
- Track treatment responses and modify plans as needed to ensure safety and efficacy
- Maintain accurate, compliant medical records and uphold healthcare quality standards
- Contribute to research and continuous improvement of radiation oncology protocols
- Support junior staff and medical trainees in clinical learning and development
What qualifications and experience are required?
Education:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical institution
- Completion of specialized training in Radiation Oncology
- Board certification in Radiation Oncology
- DHA license or eligibility preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a hospital or cancer center environment
- Proficiency in IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, and other modern radiation technologies
Skills:
- Exceptional diagnostic, analytical, and communication skills
- Strong interpersonal presence with both colleagues and patients
- Experience in clinical trials or academic research is a plus
- Compassionate and committed to high-quality patient care
